Orange Cape Squid Head help

Can anyone help me?

I sent an Orange Caped Squid Head to AFA for grading. It was in excellent condition and I expected it to get an 85 at least.

It came back graded as a normal squid head with a grade of 70 because according to AFA the cloak was heavily discoloured.

Are there any websites around that prove the orange cape to be a variant rather than discolouration? Failing that does anyone have any pics of on orange caped SH MOC?

Any help would be appreciated.

No carded orange caped squids exist unfortunately, I would say AFA were right on this one, at most the orange cape is something people wish were real but are nothing more (in my opinion ) than faded capes.

I have also seen a Luke Jedi that Tank recently bought in a lot with an orange cape, the figures were displayed before Tank got them and they were in Australia (think lots of sun exposure + brown cape = orange cape)

To be honest i think the bright orange squids are fake, the ones with orange tinge are Tan cape squids that have discoloured.

I have three myself, one AFA graded which is a tan cape that has turned orange, and two loose, the loose ones are the bright orange ones, the cape cut isnt right, and its not fading as the colour is consistent under the collar and in the folds, so i think custom.

I nearly **** my pants reading this post! I honestly cant believe the AFA have actually acted responsibility for once!

Thanks for the comments.
The RS thread was interesting. It seems as thoght here is a lot of disagreement as to whether it is a variuant or a discoloured cape.

The fact that there are no MOC examples makes me think it is discolouration, however the fact that it is exactly the same colour everywhere, even under the collar makes me think it isn't!

Someone mentioned a tan cape. Mine is the same colour as the Squid head on the right in the last post on this thread:

Thats more likely a Tan cape, i have 2 or three Tan examples and they are all different shades, its the bright orange ones that are fake in my opinion.

So in effect there is an orange cape squid, but i dont hink there was one from factory level unless they are proved as prototypes (which is why im keeping 2 of mine )

ive added my pic below of a few tan capes and my obviously orange one, ill get a shot of my AFA 80 one on as well
