How the **** do you stop them?

I'm registered with TPS and although it's cut them down there's still some coming through.
Just had one from a company who pretended they were TPS and promised to investigate the reports of nuisance calls based on my high volume of them. All I had to do was ring 0845 2411 and ask for Howie.
And then for £1.80 per month they'd stop.
Needless to say he put the phone down pretty quick when I threatened to report them.

and I thought it was an American thing. I usually do not answer them or when I do...I say my daddy is not home...call back later...the again there is the classic go **** yourself.

It's a nightmare nowadays but:

1. Www.tpsonline.org.uk...register online every 6 months or so

2. Choose to refuse, you can place a service on the line that you can punch in a code after receiving that call and if it calls back it will be blocked ( only works with 10 numbers)...speak to your phone provider ( tip....this is a chargeable service as a feature, but if you say to your phone company that you are fed up and may change provider as you've been offered it free as a service they will add it for free usually)

3. You can block calls with non presentation ( I.e. Calls that don't present their number, they won't get through)...again this is with your provider, again play the game with them!

4. You can by handsets now that have nuisance call blocking feature within the phone

If you use all or a combination of the above, it will drastically reduce the calls, and obviously be really miserly with giving your number when filling out online stuff, always tick the "no marketing " section

Alternatively, if your not that bothered, change your number...drastic I know, but gets you back to square one!

I got a cold call recently offering to stop me getting cold calls. You couldn't make it up.
He hung up when I explained the irony to him.

Another cold call I instantly said "Is there something wrong with my computer". The asian bloke on the end sheepishly said "Yes".

This needs to be stopped at government level. I don't get that many, but my elderly parents who struggle to get up from the chair get numerous daily. They've signed up for all the prevention schemes, but still doesn't work.

The TPS does not work. It does cut it down but not complete.
Neither does changing numbers which I did because they're a recycled numbers. I changed my number about 5 years ago and still get calls for the ex-user

I head something on the radio the other day about some company doing something that blocks nuisance callers. Can't remember who it was. Tesco maybe… :?

The iPhone has a block this caller function. It helps cut them down too. Go into the recent call list, click on the little i and block this caller is in the list.

It's damage limitation Rich, there is no way nowadays to prevent nuisance calls altogether but using a combination of the services you have available will reduce them.

For you home line...

Caller display......so you can choose not to answer if you don't recognise the number
Anonymous caller reject..... Blocks calls that withhold their number
Last caller bar/ choose to refuse...this allows you to block 10 calls

Obviously TPS as well

We've had nuisance calls almost since we moved to this house a couple of years ago. We had a brand new number (my first BT account) but they still got hold of it and within a couple of months we were getting calls so regularly that we just decided to unplug the house phone.

We only ever plug it back in now if we have to make a call - peace and quiet!

I had a ppi one beginning of last week, they were mid way through their opening waffle statement so I decided to sing to him day tripper by the Beatles, I sang him the entire song, when I finished he literally just carried on from where he had been interrupted without even acknowledging my song, which infuriated me, so I asked him several questions based on salmon afterwards and he did eventually hang up.

I love nuisance calls because I do something like this every time, makes the calls more fun and you don't end up getting angry like our northern brother Richard here.

Another good one is to ask the caller if they're happy with their life and their work. I'm determined to make one break down and tell me they've had enough of it all.

I don't hang up just leave the phone infront of the TV with episode 2 on they soon go away. No seriously they are a pain in the arse.

Same as Joe

My house phone is constantly un-plugged. Everyone who I want to talk to has my mobile no and therefore I'm contactable that way. I only ever plug my house phone in when making a call normally at the week-end as the calls are free.

No nuisance calls for me

When I get called and they ask for me, I tell them to hold on while I go get him. I put the phone side and leave the cunts to it.

When will they understand that I ain't I buying what they're selling.

I got fed up of those PPI calls so I just said yeah go on send me the form to fill out. Got the form chucked it straight in the bin and haven't had a call from them since.
