Was browsing through ebay.com to see if I could grab the 3 remaining ESB I need to complete that run....No joy but what I did notice was the rather HUGE amount of MISB Star Wars Lego for sale!

UCS MF a good number graded boxed starting from $5,000 up to $12,500...Add in Jabba's sale barge and various others Cloud City ect and will this be a new trend over the next few years?

If I personally was going to encase Lego in Acrylic I would build it first then get a customer made case for it. Just my two pence minus tax and vat.........

Personally can't get into the Lego thing

I think the trend will be short lived..... But may be wrong?

Lego is Lego. And will obviously take advantage of the SW segment of the market along with any other areas they can market into

I just can't get excited by it

For me SW is a combination of factors that lead me to want to collect

Nothing against it though, whatever floats a boat :!:

Lego has been popular as long as i've been alive (with a slight but significant lull in the 90s) but now is at an all time high. Lego stores opening right left and centre and collectors in almost every area of collecting ranging from 3 year olds to 63 year olds. And in recent years, as you mentioned it's become one of the most expensive tpys on the market, and for what it is i'd suggest it's the most expensive toy range of all time. It is JUST bits of mass produced plastic and yet large-ish (not rare) sets in the Lego shop are going for 100s of pounds! In terms of weight and mass i'd bet my Mac is a cheaper product. I checked the stock market and i think pound for pound gold is still just ahead of Lego.
Personally it does nothing for me but i don't see it stopping any time soon. If ever.

As said
Lego isn't going anywhere they are only 1 year into a 10 year merchandising contract with Lucas as was and since they also have a massive contract with Disney the change in ownership of the IP won't slow them down. OT stuff will always flow through the lego lines with maybe a dozen models of one sort or another each year and then current movies, clone wars and there is even an expanded universe sub-line now. Don't forget that when Lego went bust in the late 90's it was the SW deal that bought it back to life and it hasn't look back since. In 1999 they made 13 SW lego models. Last year they made 43 and this year we already know of 33 models and it is only April.

And if you want to look beyond SW, Lego is producing Marvel Lego sets, DC lego sets, Lord of the Rings/Hobbit sets, Disney sets like Cars, Toy Story, Prince of Persia, Pirates of the Caribbean etc, teenage mutant turtles, and then they have their own lines, City, Castle, space and the toy of the year line Friends Lego, and they just bought the rights to the Simpsons and Back to the Future through a fan site model thing (cussoo).

Most lines only stay about for two years so with such a spread of ranges and such a huge and ever growing fan base more and more people are stocking up and then selling on when official production stops, sadly this is going to get bigger and bigger as a market and more and more people are starting to AFA their lego (I don't get it either) so the after//collecting market is now massive and getting bigger, just another way to spend a lot of money really :)

Cloud city goes for loads but I noticed Jabba's sail barge only sells now for a bit more than what it used to retail at, especially auctions and not BINS. So not a good investment

You can actually make money buying cheap end of line Lego on their website and sticking it on eBay for a quick profit. Those Star Wars advent calendars always sell well on eBay the year after cos they release a new one each year.

Love the Star Wars Lego set myself, but as said above they are a bit pricey. It is difficult to justify the price but it is miles ahead of the 'cheaper brands'.

Good thing is it all Lego works together and there is a huge back catalogue to pick up used, some of our Lego at home is mine from childhood and is more than good for making an Imperial Base on a budget.

Despite its price I find it difficult to knock a good quality product that encourages creativity.

Loving it Chubb :)

Love SW and LOTR/Hobbit Lego myself, buy them for the weeun but errrrr its for me :)

The UCS sets do shoot up alot in price, especially as they have a certain production run. However what I dont get is grading a MISB............ However my wife and friends dont get that I purchased a graded Vintage Imperial Shuttle, infact some of them said break it open and build it!!

Each to their own I guess, but watch this space for SW Lego AFA growing............

I quite like it, it's a lot of money though.

I've got some mini figures on my desk at work (i'm in IT, i can pull it off), some one had the advent calendar, and i just robbed it when they we done!! :D free snowtrooper!!!!

Cheers Badderius, I have been meaning to post this in the Lego Corner thread.

The LOTR Lego looks very tempting but it would just burn up Vintage funds (not that I even have any of them atm).

It's just ridiculously overpriced for what you get. I saw a Hogwarts thing in Toys R Us going for around £250

I do like some modern figures but that's it. Bloody Star Wars everything these days!

I Love Lego

I would have loved to have had star wars Lego as a kid. Would have been a dream come true!!

I have a vintage Lego collection and still buy more recent pieces when I can. 8)

Lego was a big part of my childhood! Have a pic of me at my 6th bday party holding my Lego 'LL928 Space Cruiser' 8). Hell was even part of our learning curriculum in junior school!! Got into Technic Lego when I was a little older.
Was taken to Lego Land by my gorgeous girl last year esp to see the SW displays and wasn't disappointed!!

Awesome 8) 8)

Well it's not cheap paying full ticket prices, I got a heavy discount through work. But yeh there is a whole separate SW building with loads in it!

Lego will never be out of fashion and Star Wars Lego is no exception - it is very popular and some sets sell for big money.

IMO Lego is getting better and better The Death Star set 10188 is a masterpiece and almost like a working dollshouse with many features it captures various scene's in the Trilogy with great detail, It's my personal favourite set in the whole Lego line up

I honestly do not get the sw lego thing and this is coming from a kid who used to have plenty of the original stuff growing up! I've also been to legoland in Windsor and i was still bored shitless but the boy enjoyed passing his lego driving test :)

I guess lego experiences are different for everyone, that is part of the draw for me but I see my kids play differently.

I love building iconic vehicles and locations, seeing them grow from nothing and then engineer a solution. That only serves to fuel my imagination and build my own stuff, SW or otherwise. Take the current crop of lego trains, Hornby is good, but all you can do is put the train on the track and watch it go round. With Lego I can build the train, customise it, add Power and make it an RC.
To be honest the lego figures are no different to Hasbro figures, lots of accessories and very playable for little ones, in some ways they have more playability as you can mix and match bodies, heads etc, kids love that, I watch my daughter mix them all up all the time. Lego really is the ultimate toy for imagination and engineering, expensive yes, but most lego get played with for years or even generations, which actually makes it decent value.

My kids love lego as did/do I :D I can't see it going away anytime soon, ok sw may eventually tail off when they've milked it dry but there are so many other lines to follow its going to be around forever :D

Still got my boxed mono spacerail from the late 80's :) holding on to that one

Just wish the dr who sets were lego brand as the character building sets are inferior in quality and don't have the same tight connection. the bloody dalek factory is forever falling apart

Legoland overpriced but all the merlin attractions are, had a merlin pass last year and rinsed it to the max :) legoland is for lovers of lego, SW and for kids under 10 as the rides are pretty tame, mine loved it but my daughter prefers the more extreme rides :) still worth a visit if you have kids, not sure about going for the sw display alone.
