Does anyone else deliberately buy slighly battered/near mint figures purely for the nostalgia? The figures I have bought have marks, loose limbs, missing weaponsetc. And I like them like that... Call me odd but it just makes me feel like they've been played with and they've been loved. It's nice to sort of 'rescue' toys.

Please tell me I'm not the only one, I feel slightly alone LOL

I'm not sure, if I'd buy a beater figure then I want it to be in as good nick as possible (wishful thinking I know). I like all my own scuffed up figs from back in the day as I put all the paint rubs and dings there myself. But not sure I would be hunting out other peoples played with figs especially as there would be no personal nostalgia for myself in the scuffs & marks.

We did have an Artoo once that me & my bro lost couldn't find it anywhere when we packed the figs away after playing in the garden one day. Always baffled us as to where the little **** went. Then a couple of years down the line we decided to get the old Swingball out. As we thrust the metal spike into the hole in the ground it didn't quite go in. After inspection who did we pull out from the tight fitting little hole......Needles to say the fella ha some damage to him now. But its damage that to us tells a personal tale and he will always be a keeper

Nice pic though

Yeah I still have my beaters and they are realbeaters. But yeah I get the idea of saving beaters, as most collectors acknowledge they are a part of the history , but they hunt minty examples.

And some even turn their noses up at thrashed figures and say they are worthless . Which in my opinion is wrong as they are valuable to someone. And as pigcity says it's mostly their original owners.

But if a collector says beaters are only fit for the bin then I think they are mint snobs , and are in for the wrong reason.
