Hi everyone,

I have just re-started my vintage loose figure collection after a few years of stagnation and have got the buzz back for collecting

Purchased a dozen or so figures over the last few weeks and on average I have been paying between £8 and £12 for a loose complete figure with all original weapons and/or accessories.

These are for the normal run of the mill figures (not the last 17 or any rare variants).

Is this a fair price to pay (in today's market)?

A few shops/markets I have visited have complete figures at really high prices (like £24.99 for a loose complete Squid Head)

I am not in this to make money, I am just revisiting my youth and trying to wipe out the scars that I got when my Mum gave away my vast collection to my pesky cousin (so wish I could go back in time !!) way back in the late 1980/early 90s

Also, does anyone know or recommend anywhere in the North West (Liverpool to Manchester areas) to go to that sells vintage figures/vehicles? ... I have had a quick search on the forum and someone has mentioned a place in Afflecks, Manchester? Is this place still open and worth a visit?

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks

If you look around shows (farthest from for instance :) ), normally available figures in loose complete seem to be going anywhere from around 5 or 6 quid up to 25-ish depending on condition, so you seem to be in the right ballpark :)

It'll get more interesting when you want a Luke Farmboy, or an A-wing pilot with correct gun...... or a DT Luke......... or a vinyl cape Jawa.................. or a DT ben.... :)

Many thanks for the reply

Do not get me started on the Vinyl Jawa !!! ... 100% had this as a child when all my mates had the cloth version and I spent hours arguing mine was a real jawa and not a cheap version from the market !!!

Remember mailing away for figures or weapons/accessories and waiting months for it to arrive in the post ... brilliant when they finally arrived

Slave 1 for one of my birthday as a kid is still my favourite ever present ... eclipsing the AT-AT and Snowspeeder

Never had the Rancor though so that is a must purchase at some stage in my collecting

The Last 17 is going to cost me a small fortune isn't it?

The best advice I can give:

- Only buy what you like/want

- Only pay what you think is reasonable; 'market value' at the moment is like a rollercoaster, so no real point in trying to judge the 'right price'

- Get in touch with Iain Sanderson &/or Christian at GW Acrylic to discuss stands and cases as displaying the items you own and curating that display can happily fill many an hour and is a good way to distract from spend. spend, spend!

- under no circustances rush to complete anything, get what you like, when you like at the price you like... it can (within reason) be all over all too quickly and some of teh most fun is the chase and the hunt as well of course as the display

Thank you for your advice, much appreciated

Looking forward to this being a long term thing and getting every ounce of enjoyment out of it

Much would rather purchase from stores, car boots, shows etc than e-bay just so i can see before I buy ... however e-bay may have to be my main source if I cannot locate stockists near(ish) by

Obviously its great handling figures before buying but it's not always practical, there is a great sales section on here which I would far rather use than Ebay for certainty on what I was getting - http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=4
