New RM prices?

Not sure if anyone else has seen this - I saw a poster in the post office yesterday and just found this blog post:

RM seem to have seen sense and realised it's stupid to penalise people just because a box is 1 or 2cm bigger than their 'small parcel' allowance. Anyone else tried it yet, has it made sending MOCs more affordable? I've been paying £7-8 for the last few I've bought just for second class recorded, which is too much IMO.

What a surprise this has happened after privatisation - so the general moronic public will get onside.

Obviously it is better, paying £2.60 instead of £5.20 for something like a mini-rig.

..and another thing - it would appear that there is no difference whatsoever between 1st and 2nd class post. Not sure if this has always been the case but sent one out last week and it arrived within two days. Can't complain

Well either the price change makes jack-**** difference, or I just got scammed by the lovely old lady at the post office. I sent a shoe box sized item under 1kg, it was either £6.80 for second class recorded, £7.80 for first recorded, or £11 for special delivery! Jokers. Will be sticking to couriers.

You just gutted scammed. That's completely wrong. It should have been £3. For a UK parcel.

Wankers. I even asked if that took the recent price changes in to consideration. Shame it's only a few quid, not worth the hassle of complaining.

the thing is, even with collect+ at least you have an online database of evrything you have posted and live tracking, its worth the extra £1 for that alone, waiting for RM to update their track and trace is a frigging nail biter as if they open a case you are screwed.

on small cost items i suppose its not an issue.

To be fair there have been so many price changes with the RM over the last few weeks that half the staff are unsure what the correct prices are, I have just been to our local small post office & she wanted £6.80 for an item my better half wanted to post as she said it does not fit the box, but I had to for a second time explain to her what the differences are between the slot small parcel & the small box small parcel, its not there fault if I am honest as the counter staff are not being given the training & a lot of the seem totally confused by all the changes.

Small parcels slot - Length 45cm
Width 35cm
Depth 8cm
Weight up to 2kg max

Small parces box - Length 35cm
Width 25cm
Depth 16cm
Weight up to 2kg max.

Huge price increase if it goes over 1kg though

I know its not our responsibility to check, but with the staff being all over the place in terms of reliability, I now make sure I measure/weigh & price every item prior to even heading off to the PO as gone are the days where they are accurate IMO.

Anything over 16cm in width or 2kg in wieght - go via the courier option, if you check parcel to go they seem to have a huge amount of options, many many courier firms, if your item is to big or heavy for them try paisley freight as they can handle large stuff & are the cheapest option I have found, just wrap it well as they can be a little rough.

Its a right bloody mare & ebay hitting you with a fee on your postage cost really helps :?

Yes I'd love to know what their logic for that is. They cap the amount you can charge, insist you use tracked methods even if that amount doesn't cover it, and buyers complain if you charge them a penny more than the price printed on the label. So basically eBay are expecting sellers to subsidise the postage while they make money on it. Unbelievable.

I sent a parcel the other day and was surprised at how big a 'small parcel' is now. Sounds like you got scammed Edd. The guide box every post office should have is massive, bigger than a shoe box.

On a side not of tracking, Royal Mail are in the process of working on getting tracking on every parcel to get in line with other couriers. I'm guessing it just takes time to get the technology and steps in place to do this. I think they are planning on introducing it next year.

Its a pain in the rear end that they now charge you a fee on the postage. I wouldn't mind paying it IF they let you charge what you needed for postage. They say that online retailer's like Amazon offer free postage so people on ebay should as well. Well, if I was taking in £1,000,000's of pounds worth of orders a year then I might be able to. But when my item sells for say £3, it costs be £5.20 to post but ebay will only let me charge £1, what the point in me selling it. Utter bollock's. I have starting putting in my auctions that postage will be X amount, not what is listed in the postage section due to eBay's limit on postage cost's, nobody has complained yet.

The guys at the post-office know me well and when they told me that the prices were being lowed again he offered me this box which was to show how large your parcel could be. I said 'na don't worry i never send anything that big' (it was quite big) but if you guys like i could ask him for it and take some pictures and measure it up.

There's no medium parcels now it all comes under Small Packet until you go either super large or super heavy. £3.

They fit exactly in the postage box and therefore postage is either £3.00 or £4.10 recorded. The boxes work out at 38p each but this way I know that my box is the right size

You can fit two MOCs in Star Cases in them and I would expect most mini-rigs and small boxed ships
