Hi

I am thinking about selling a panel of original artwork from the 1975 Doctor Who Annual. It features the Doctor, the Brigadier, Jo Grant and the Tardis and is from a story called 'Dead on Arrival' (page 37). I have no idea how much this would be worth. Any ideas?

Cheers

This is brilliant. I believe the artist was Edgar Hodges who also illustrated some Noddy, Thomas the Tank Engine and some other kids books. He was also a mightily accomplished "proper" artist, too.

As for value, that's slightly harder. I can see a Dr. Who fan paying more for what it is than someone who particularly liked Hodges' work, if you see what I mean. That said, it's a small market for such a thing. I think you would be best seeking an appropriate auction that was selling a good cross section of vintage DW items and chance your arm like that. If you couldn't be bothered doing that (fair enough, auction houses are a hassle and take a while to get paid) then I'd stick it up on eBay on Buy it Now (with a best offer facility) for 30 days. If it was mine I'd start at around £300 and be prepared to come down. What do I personally think it's worth? £60-£70. But, there may just be someone willing to pay the higher price or at least something resembling it. I'm not a DW fan really and I'd be tempted at the lower price as I do like comic art.

Thanks for the reply. Yes - I think it's brilliant too. It is from the first Doctor Who annual I ever got and the particular comic strip it is from was my favourite. Quite by chance my dad got this for me in a sale in the mid 80s. Thanks for the info about the artist.

No problem. If you do go down the sale route then please do post up a link to wherever it's for sale. I'd be interested in seeing what it goes for.
