Jabba ...bit of info, I found interesting anyway

Thanks for sharing Mike... :D

I always thought Jabba was intended to be human first time round and it was the axing of 'that scene' (to keep up the pace of the movie after a third party re-edit) that allowed Lucas to create an alien Jabba for ROTJ long after ANH. I do agree that before filming commenced Lucas may have considered an alien Jabba, but once the script was complete, the budget set and the cameras rolling Jabba was cast as a human.

What this article does prove though is that Lucas is full of ****. Making it up as he goes along pretending it was a master plan. He is just a blagger and mater bullshitter IMO, changing facts and contradicting himself to fit his supposed vision.

Interesting read although I must confess that I never thought that much of Jabba in the films. It's not the design for me, it's more the fact that as he can't really move much I couldn't work out why someone didn't just shoot him. I know Brando was pretty overweight in The Godfather but he still felt like he could mess you up if he wanted to. Perhaps the original actor would have been a better way to go for me.

You should read the 'making of' books JC. A lot of the storie lines are made up on the spot due to special effect limitations, cost issues and directorial input but the overview is fairly consistent.

They are all good reads and lots of pics of character ideas. The Rancor was originally going to be a man in a suit - it looked awful :)

I have got the Jedi one, the rubber Rancor is a shocker. I think I have seen video footage of it too at some point.

Spot on about the films, especially ANH. Some of the on the spot decisions and being let down by poor props and less than suitable filming conditions end up being positives for the films.

I was a bit off the mark to say things are set in stone after script and budget are decided...

I still think Lucas talks a lot of BS though, no turning back on that one

No arguments there - worst thing that happened to Star Wars ;)

Pros and cons, as with everything.

I'm simplistic in approach ( being simple myself :D ).

We all make mistakes, are driven sometimes by gain and do things for the wrong reasons, but ultimately without Lucas, would we have had the concept and the SW original films?

I suppose my point is, all things could be better, but that's life, let's hope the new films can address a lot of the issues raised over the years, but TBH with such a vast audience out there anticipating great things, there are going to be plenty of detractors, for me though, can't wait, take it for what it is.

Without SW we could have ended up being Bus and train spotters
