Heres something I was thinking about, would be interested in what you guys views are, So, If money was no object, would you buy everything you wanted in one go, Grail pieces, Full MOC runs etc? Or would you still seek out bargains...... :?:

I for one enjoy hunting down pieces I want, posting new pick ups in the LA thread, etc. I couldn't see myself buying everthing at once, wouldn't see the fun in not having anything to look forward too...........

Just a thought, I dont have many.........

If money were no object, I'd buy all the modern and e-woks and have a bloody great bonfire.

And get working on a life size working replica of the death star.

It's nice to think of what you could buy if money was no object, all the goodies you want, shelves full of prototypes worth thousands of pounds, a display room bigger than most peoples entire ground floor..but I do honestly think the fun would be gone.

No more bargain hunting, no more scrimping and saving, no more gawping at items you would love to own but don't think you will ever get the chance to own.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to be a millionaire for a week just to see what goodies I could get and how much money I could throw at people to give up their "precious" grails but if I could get everything I wanted in a week I would be left thinking..what now?

Good subject though, I like to hear people's thoughts on money in this hobby. My personal one is money talks and if you have it you can pretty much build any collection you want almost overnight, there will of course be times when an item is owned by someone very attached to it and if it's irreplaceable then they might never sell it but I would wager that if you were to chuck thousands of dollars or pounds at anyone in this hobby they would buckle and sell you whatever toys they had quicker than billy whizz!

There is a section of the community with ultra rare stuff that is one or two of a kind that would never sell despite what money you offered them. This would still make some collecting goals difficult to achieve. You'd up your game to goals that were harder to achieve like every figure MOC on every different known cardback on the planet. Would still leave lots of gaps for you to track down!

If money really was no object I think offering them silly amounts would definitely work Jason, lol

"Will you take $50,000 for your one of a kind proof card?"

"No sir, this ones a keeper" - say goodbye to that extension/new car/6 month holiday family members!

Get what I mean? :D Everyone has their price!

Good question!

My first thought was buying alot in one go, but I really don't think I would be buying everything that's out there,
having a focus narrows everything down a bit, and it's much more fun, at least in my opinion.
And it limits spending, but rarer items certainly would be much more available, but I'm still not sure, I still think £1400 for a MOC
is a bit too much for me. It just doesn't sit right with me to shell out that amount for one piece, but that's just me.

I just shelled out enough for my grail, and that's the most I've spent in one go, and I don't think I'd ever get a better condition one,
even if I could afford it without worry.

Holy crap Jeff, this really made me think!!

I think the saying "Getting there is half the fun" is wrong in this case. It is most of the fun; for me at least.

This question certainly makes you think. :?:

I disagree, some people aren't money orientated or have enough money that they don't need yours.

:)

Jason

I'd love to meet someone not money orientated or who was so rich they didn't care about money

I tend to agree with Jason on this, though I think there is more to it than just not wanting to part with pieces I think a lot comes down to knowing where those pieces are to be able to offer stupid sums of money.

If money was no object I still wouldn't be able to complete my collection. I could put out a general 'I'll pay £10k for the following figures if anyone has them' (or 20k, 30k etc) which I think would get me quite a few, but many people don't frequent forums so would probably never hear my offer. And other people probably have no idea what they have to be able to pass it on

And of course there are many pieces where we don;t know if they exist still, let alone who has them if they do!

That said if money was no object I could certainly venture down other lines of collecting that I'm avoiding because my money is tied up on the pieces I want at the moment.

The real problem would be whether to buy them all in one go (if possible) or build up the collection. As someone has already said, part of the thrill is in the hunt!

Of course another part of the thrill is in the owning! :D

Not star wars but I would buy some game cabinets and have a big hall and have all the neo geo games plus could afford good food, thats all I would need to be contented knowing never have to worry about money again. life of luxury and rest.

I keep telling you Gary, those photos are not for sale!!!

I'd porobably take a different approach to most.

I wouldn't be fixated on the stuff I don't have, more what can I do to enhance and make the stuff I already have cooler.
I would love to have a room reacreated as a toy shop from that time, so not just Star Wars but other lines connected with the same time era. The displays/ graphics/ look/ feel etc mimicing something that is lost in most toy retailers now. The feeling of nostalgia would be more personal and the satisfaction more powerful to me than some rare pieces I never owned as a kid, or prototypes that are covet because they are few in number.

Toys changed a lot over the period Star Wars was available, think of how awesome it would be to have a 78 room populated with the likes of Action Man, Muton/ Cyborg, Airfix, LEGO and then on to an 85 room with Transformers, MOTU, Action Force, Rough Riders, Robo Machines etc

It is also something that is possibly more achievable too.

Full run of Toltoys 12 backs for me, I'd still enjoy the hunt with those.

I think I would carry on as I am now but prob start looking for some more higher end pieces. I love the hunt and searching so I would never buy all I wanted in one go.

I think thats how it would be but untill the day happens where I have millions in the bank, I'll never know. :p

I agree that if money was no object it would be less fun. Tracking down those deals is half the fun for me.

I'm quite lucky that I don't really have expensive taste when it comes to Star Wars, I'm not in to prototypes or anything like that. My real passion is/was tri logos, so a Madine would be my grail, if I could get him I'd probably start another run :)

It would ruin it. But I would have a VC JAWA- blue snaggletooth fire so they would rightfully be back to super grail status. :p

I think it would ruin it. There would be no fun, no watching down the last seconds of an eBay auction wondering if your cheapskate bid will be enough.
Saying that though, I'd have an early bird set. Even to get one on a payment plan over a few months, they're probably still too expensive for me.
