Another footy thread for all you non footy supporters to ignore!

Ã'£16 million for Henry and Darren Bent is being talked of in the Ã'£18 million pound bracket? **** OFF!

If Henry (admittedly 31) is worth Ã'£16 million, then Bent can't be worth any more than Ã'£8-9 million, absolute tops.

Good news Arsenal fans? Ã'£16 million for Wenger to spend or a big gap in your forward line?

Henry is off to Barca and Wenger is touting Tevez as a replacement, otherwise Wenger is on the top of Real Madrids next manager list!

Henry is 29 at the minute but he's using the excuse that he will be nearly 31 by the start of next season so this was his last chance to escape before Wenger goes.

It's good news for Liverpool fans as he terrorised us in every game but it's bad news for the Premier League.

One rumour is they plan to spend the money on Owen and Anelka !!

great buisness ,his best years area behind him .wenger wont buy any one .get ready for wallcott

Looks like Arsenal are falling apart. Issues in the boardroom, a manager who won't commit long term and losing by far and away their best player. Personally don't think that some of the fantastic youth players will want to stick around either. Can't see Fabregas battling out for 3rd or 4th year after year when he could be at Barca or Real.

Don't wish them ill will but a direct rival to Liverpool in turmoil isn't a bad thing for me.

Thing is though Wenger has sold big names before, Petit and Overmars, then Viera, and the kids have proved him right.
Sure there is a drop off as they learn but, still I reckon If he can get a decent striker in to cover Henry they will be fine.

If Wenger goes it may be a job lot to Real. Look at Reyes. Arsenal take a chance on him, becomes good, wants to bugger off to Real and now doesn't want to come back.

See I'm not sure Wenger/Benitez and to a lesser degree Mourinho will want to take over at a Spanish club. The Spanish clubs are run very differently to Premiership clubs. The 'Manager' doesn't actually buy the players in Spain. Hence Real buying Figo, Zidane, Beckham, Ronaldo, Ruud Van Nistelroy, Robinho, Baptista etc etc etc when what they really needed was a defender, ANY defender!
Barca isn't really that different, and I know that was one of the factors that attracted Benitez to Anfield, the fact he got to pick who the club bought.

I Just can't see Wenger (with his eye for spotting and nurturing talent) being happy with some fat cat who knows **** all about football buying him a few big names and expecting miracles!

Obviously Mourinho is already in that position at Chelsea. No one actually believes he wants/wanted Ballack and Shevchenko!

I can see Wenger running his contract down (I think it runs till summer 2008) then leaving Arsenal, maybe even to take over the French job. One thing is for sure, IF he leaves half the young players will follow suit. I'd put money on Frabregas going before the end of the season.

I read that Wenger was worried Henry might inhibit the progression of his new youngsters. It was the same as United, Fergie had said that with keane gone Ronaldo would flourish .... and he did. if wenger stays Arsenal will be fine, but if he goes then the whole thing could collapse.

It just makes me wonder though, how come the Spanish teams pay **** all for our superstars ( Henry. Van Nistlerooy. etc) and yet when we want a Spanish Player( Torres) its 30 million?

True!

Then I guess it's the same when you try and buy a British player, Bent is never worth more than Ã'£7 or Ã'£8 million and as for Carrick at Ã'£18 million...........

Those players are around 29 to 30 and maybe only have 2 good years left in them whereas Torres is 23 years old and if he can prove himself in England could be there for 10 years.

i would say 3 to 4 years left in them as the modern footballers, barring injury, tend to last a bit longer than they used to. do you not think craig that 30 million is a tad risky on a guy who is not proven in the prem, and only scores about 15 goals a year in la liga, when henry scores 30+ . i saw utd name banded around for torres , but i hope they go for fabio quaglio( or something) instead

i am not to keen on torres for that reason

Who else is there though that will score goals?
David Villa would be ideal but I don' think we can afford him, nor does he wanna leave Valencia.

I agree Torres is a risk but then so is every player and there is no guarantee Liverpool will sign him anyway.

I haven't seen that much of him to be honest but he is very highly rated and Rafa isn't a manager who will spend big money unless he is certain he is right for the team.
