It must of been by hand with a hand tool right? There so random in shape and depth it couldnt of been by machine.

i bet it was like peeling potatoes.

It cant be? health and safety and all that

mind you it was the 80s.

Im sure there would be blood stains on the scars and bubbles where worked have missed peeling the legs.

so must of been machine i guess.....anyone know?

I'd always assumed the post mould/cast COO removal would be with something like a soldering iron.
I also thought that some were done pre-casting by making an amend to the mould itself, but maybe wrong...

You can always rely on Wolff

Scroll down to the scarred COO point, interesting

Perfect sense thanks mike great read.

Infact ive read some article of that before just not that far down

i liked the idea of workers peeling figures like spuds still

As Wolff site explains, the raised parts on figures are actually formed from cavities within the mould. In order to erase the "Made in" COO you simply fill the text cavity which effectively erases the text from the figures leg. That process didn't have to be exact or perfect which is why so many look so sloppy, just as long as the original COO text wasn't visible.

I had to have a laugh at the thought of someone standing around "peeling" plastic off the legs of thousands of figures though -
