Found a package on the garden path today. I have been in all day the doorbell has not rang. The package is not for me but is partially similar in address just the number and first bit of address. I would assume hermes use satnav. The address is 5 mins drive from me. I have checked google maps and package address is correct for the labels postcode. I opened the package anyway out of curiosity its £200 smart phone. There is no invoice inside.

I wont ever use hermes thats for sure. My dilema

a. Drive round and deliver to the address
b. Keep it as its hermes fault. And looks like an ebay sale so buyer would get money i assume.

Has to be A!

No reason to **** over an innocent party just cos Hermes are incompetent.

What a strange thing to ask. I would be straight round there to deliver it if its 5 minutes away......

Karma

I know you state that eBay would refund the buyer and they wouldn't be out of pocket but the seller would be and they may very we'll be a decent person, they shouldn't lose out because of Hermes incompetence. Really think you need to do the right thing on this, yes Jason States deliver it or phone Hermes and tell them to collect it.

i would make hermes do the work and collect and redeliver, can you get the original person number? just give them a ring maybe?

Do the right thing but make myhermes come and get it. It's there ****up. Why should they get away with being incompetent. Contact the seller and tell them what happened so they know where there phone is.

I once found £180 in cash on the street in a bundle of £20 notes. Handed it in to the police. 4 weeks later no one had claimed it so they have it back to me as mine. I just figured if someone had lost it that needed it they would probably go to the police and see if anyone had handed it in.

You will be very lucky to get hermes back to deliver it to the correct address. You might as well do it yourself!

I had a similar situation but out on delivery. Got to an address in FERN DELLS, lady is disabled so cant get to the door. Has an automatic door opener so went inside as she called me in. UKMail had delivered this packet but it was for THE FERNS the other side of Hatfield. Said she had been ringing UKmail for 3 days to get them to pick it up, they were not interested at all.

Also had Amazon Logistics delivering to an address in Hatfield that I was walking up to. All I could here the lady saying was that this is not the address on the packet, the guy had got totally the wrong road.

This proves to me that ALL delivery companies make mistakes, even the one's who offer cheaper delivery prices.

What smartfone was it? Cant be a very good 1 for £200. Maybe an iphone 4 or a samsung s3 at a guess? Could turn this into a comp and the winner gets it
Seriously mate, whatever you decide, get the fone to the buyer. This could be you 1 day

Very strange thing to ask. If you kept it mate, you would be a thief and im sure you be disgusted with yourself after a while. It could be a gift for someones child or anything. And am i right in saying that most phones can be tracked and stated as stolen??? Like a twat i know who tried to sell on a Kindle fire that was sent to him in error-he got a letter and a knock on the door.

Dont be swayed by the dark side

Well im glad my fellow collecting peers were on the same page. I didnt bother ringing hermes i hand delivered the item at lunchtime it was alot further from my house than i thought. The guy was in, he wasnt overly thankfull it looked like he had mental issues. Anyway the right thing done even though my missus wanted to sell it  . On the way back i got fuel and a scratch card and i won £10.....the ways of the universal gods hey

Honesty is always the best policy.

Only a month back I had to pick up a parcel from a local courier depot and they brought out two parcels the first being what I was expecting (a medium sized box containing a new bike helmet) the second being a complete Gaint (the brand not size  ) mountain bike. The bike wasn't even boxed, it was fully built up with a delivery label attached to it. The label had all my delivery details on it, very strange, but clearly a **** up somewhere. As tempting as it was to scarper with a new bike I had to be fully honest with the guy and tell him it wasn't mine.

Still waiting for the good Karma to head back my way!
