Here we go again - New films announced

Getting boring now isn't it.

There's a Disney earnings call coming up, so make of that what you will.
Probably another prick-tease to excite the investors and then quietly shelved.

The fact that an announcement of a new SW Trilogy leaves me totally apathetic, is depressing.

It is a bit silly, but Simon Kinberg would be a solid choice to write and produce and he is the most bankable creative on the Marvel side of the buisness right now and has a long history with Star Wars, (which is probably why he is named) - He is very good, so if it were to become a real thing, then expectations would rightly be high, but yes, we are a ling way from this being anything other than yet another public shout out - there is no real trust between the fans and KK any more that real content will get made.... But I am a sucker for Hope... A New Hope... (Sorry).

I know we've been here before, but from what I've read Kinberg is a genuine SW nerd, so there may be a glimmer of hope for this.

But, as @lejackal states, if its just a continuation of the Rey Palpatine mess then count me out.

Also, a bit strange we've not heard anything regarding KKs renewal. Thought her contract was up in October.
Has her contract been quietly extended??

Kinberg was part of the SW Rebels team back in the day and a big fan and while his X-Men work is a bit polarising Deadpool has been a slam-dunk for him, he knows how to write a story. If it goes ahead and if he is allowed to write all three in one go, so we get a connected, thought out story and if he is given the creative freedom to do his job, then whatever it is, EP10-EP13, or an entirely new story with maybe so familiar faces here and there I think it would create a lot of excitement and could be worth the wait.

As for KK's contract, you'd have thought a renewal or a termination would have been front page news, but it is staggering she is still there...

My problem is I'm a romantic (Classically speaking), I want to be excited, I want to feel the way I did as a 8yr old watching SW for the first time, I want to fall in love with the characters and for the stories to have the same impact on me that they did back in the day - and for that reason I can't give up hope, I want these to be good - However, the older more practical me knows how bad the run of films and shows have been of late and the type of nonsense stories that KK wants to push, so the weight of evidence would indicate we're just in for more of the same - that is if we're in for anything at all...

If Bob has any sense, he will quietly push KK out, bring in new leadership and spend at least 2yrs developing a fully rounded set of scripts before doing anything, but the reality is, it will be a miracle if the writer just lasts until Christmas....

Well the last 3 were so damn poor I've not even gone back to give them a 2nd watch, went to the cinema to watch them all, but came away dragging my heels, I feel R1 was a really strong film & had the right feel about it, one I have since watched a good few times, solo was half decent & I just recently re-watched it a 2nd time.

It sort of feels like we need to move totally away from what we know with the films history & make a fresh start, I think going back in time & starting a new story line is needed, no need to keep going over trodden ground, but no point in any of it if they just want to churn out more of the same.

We moaned about the prequels, but in comparison to the latest 3 we were spoiled rotten, it's not just SW though just look at the Alien films & the predator movies, so much epic material available for them to really push them forward & what we've been getting is meh, I've read most of the Alien / Predator & AVP books & they are really great story arcs, gritty & dark & thoroughly gripping, yet they go with weak story lines & poor casting & questionable acting etc.

Balance needs to be returned to the force for sure.

Gonna blow my own trumpet a bit here if you'll all for give me....

In my opinion the REAL problem with Star Wars at the moment is not only Kennedy's absolutely terrible force-d female first agenda, but also the lack of freedom that results in given to writers. Also the single worst mistake is to not open that door for REAL fans.

As a writer across multiple genres for many decades ( author, journalist, music and entertainment press ) and Star Wars fan since seeing the original in cinemas as a nine year old kid,
surely I ( and those like me ) are the very kind of people that they should be looking at.

I'm typing this from my home office which is like a man cave shrine to vintage Star Wars.

I have numerous Star Wars concepts written up and friends that have read them were left buzzing, all asking the same thing - WHY isn't this a film /series ?

I'm not claiming rock star status here, but just like Ozzy opened the door to anyone and found Randy Rhodes, maybe it's beyond time Lucasfilm did the same ?

They would have hit a home run if they'd taken virtually any story line from the first Thrawn trilogy onward. They could've done the X-Wing / rogue squadron series of books as a series, they could've added I, Jedi as a film. Honestly anything but what they actually did pretty much. With the prequels I've fallen more in love with them as time has progressed. The sequel trilogy on the other hand just annoys and disappoints more and more.

I wish they had done Shadows of the Empire, the Thrawn Trilogy or the Dark Empire been great to see Leia as a Jedi.

I agree I hate 7,8,9 just complete crap KK wants shooting.

I really liked episode 7, I didn't like episode 8, thought episode 9 was all right. If this report turned out to be true, I can't say I'd be excited about a direct continuation of that story.

Not watched a second of SW since I walked out of the cinema after being subjected to the utter abomination that was the last Jedi.
I would have preferred to watch 90 mins of my granny getting gangbanged. In fact, sucking the cock of every fella in that gangbang would have been preferable to what Ruin Johnson served up. Seven years later and I still get angry thinking about how utterly they ****ed that up.

TLJ killed SW for me.

I have the OT. Rogue one is perfectly fine, and TFA is just a rehash of A New Hope. The rest is various shades of shite. Even Jarjar is a million miles better than TLJ though.

That should have been the tagline on the poster.

Totally agree regarding Disney SW. I'm done.
They've killed it and seem incapable of admitting the fact. Nothing will change.

I've gone back to reading the old EU books. That should keep me going for the next decade or so.

16 Movies cancelled that I can think of in 11 years and at least 2 TV Shows

Best Leadership EVER!

Released:

The Force Awakens (The most exspensive film ever made. A remake of a film that these days would cost $60 and is far superior)
The Last Jedi (Derailed the Star Wars fandom train beyond Repair)
The Rise of Skywalker (A checklist of sequences to try to mitigate The Last Jedi)
Rogue One (Rescued in the last moments by Tony Gilroy as the film was a disaster)
Solo (Directors fired with 80% complete. Mass re-shoots. Star Wars film bombs at the box office. Literally unthinkable)

This doesn't even mention the entitled racist/misogynistic 'activist' propaganda messaging they put in the stories.

The majority of the TV shows aren't much better with the majority of the 2023-2024 output being dull at best to outrageously offensive garbage at worse.

Don't worry Skelton Crew will save us. Its got kids in space that won't get killed off so there is no peril or drama to worry about.

ABSOLUTE CLUSTERFUCK!
