I know many of you are techies, so i'll try here first.
I need to buy my son a laptop for school. He wants windows 8, but I'm struggling to find a laptop that comes with the office package. Can you still get them? I could really do with some advice please.

I can spend upto about £250ish.
I don't really whats available.

Many thanks

the new office 365 is a subscription service i think that you pay for monthly so if you get a new laptop and log onto microsoft you can download it for about £6 a month or £60 a year :( microsoft coming up with new ways of making more money

Yeah, I saw that. The guy in the shop said the government stopped Microsoft blanket installing office onto computers about 4 years ago in order to promote competition. I didn't know if there was a cheap way of getting hold of the full lifetime package?

why dont you use openoffice? its got all he features of office and its free

https://www.openoffice.org/

its compatible with microsoft documents too :)

There's no legal way of getting office for free, your options are:

- install a cracked copy (illegal but easy, just Google it)
- pay £100 for it outright: http://www.ebuyer.com/447262-office-home-student-2013-79g-03549
- pay for it monthly with Office 365

I think you'll struggle getting a laptop and office for £250 to be honest mate, but as above either Open Office or Google Docs are good, free alternatives. It's worth keeping an eye on eBay's daily deals, they often have some great discounts:

Thanks for all the advice guys. I didn't know about open office.
I've now purchased a laptop, and a getting the software installed.
Thanks again
