Grading UKG v AFA

Hi Guys, I was always under the impression that UKG were more lenient on their grading scores compared with AFA.
After comparing a few examples, my own opinion is that UKG scores are a grade higher compared to their AFA counterparts.
Would you agree that an AFA 85 is comparable to a UKG 90

If anything, I think UKG are slightly stricter! I've got an afa Kenner Luke and a Palitoy Ukg one. Afa scored overall 90 but Ukg was 85. When you look closely there's no difference at all. I'm sure other people have other opinions but that's my 2 pence worth!

In my limited experience, UKG are slightly stricter. It's pretty close to call though. Pretty much what the other guys have said, really.

Like the lads say, don't think there is too much difference between them. Recently, I just prefer the look of the UKG Hologram logo on the display cases..... :D I Wouldn't think they are anymore lenient in fairness.

Not had anything graded by ukg for ages, but the last few items that I had were graded ukg 85, they would never get an afa 85.
The subgrades are pretty similar, I just think ukg have a habit of rounding up the overall grade where as afa do the opposite.

Dunno, Edd can prob confirm.
If it did and it had been taken out of the AFA case before being sent (as I suspect it must have been) then there could have been damage done between its removal and UKG receiving it.

AFA are much stricter than UKG. I once had an UKG 80 Chewie 12 Back that ended up being regarded by AFA and it came back an AFA 75. The reason it was regraded was because the item itself just didn't look like an AFA 80 even tho the UKG 80 was considered to be the equivalent grade. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong.

This was 2 years or so ago, maybe UKG have gotten stricter than they were.

It seems as though this might be the case. I'm also wondering if there is a difference between loose graded figures and carded ones.

Most people I speak to are of the same opinion as myself that ukg are stricter with loose than afa and not as strict as afa with the carded.

We all know ukg had some teething problems but IMO are going from strength to strengh.

Never owned a UKG graded MOC but had several AFA graded ones and all I can say is- grading is highly subjective.

I own two AFA 80's and tbh, one should be an 85 and the other should be a 75, two figures at completely opposite ends of the 80 score that is for sure yet on paper they are both 80's..

All in - I don't think either AFA or UKG will always get it right with regard to condition and I don't think that you would find them consistent 100% of the time. If only grading was cheap and opening a case was easy and without risk, you could send in the same card as many times as you want to see what it graded with UKG/AFA etc
