Figures That Could Be Improved

Just wondering what figures everyone thinks could be improved on, for me....

Anakin, Imperial Dignitary and The Emperor would be better with a cloth robe

Vader Removable helmet

Luke, Vader and Kenobi with the later style lightsaber

Luke Poncho with a removable helmet

Where do you start?! I love the vintage line with a passion, but accuracy was never Kenner's strong suit! As discussed here http://starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30296&start=45 the cantina aliens hardly look like they've just stepped out of the film :) But if you mean, which figures would we most like to see improved / do we wish Kenner had done a better job with, then as mentioned here http://starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29876 I always wished the first 10 ESB figures came with their prototype paint jobs. But I would also add that I struggle to see how Kenner could issue no fewer than 5 R2-D2 figures (including the Droid Factory and Droids ones) and yet still keep a crappy sticker for the body detail. Would it have killed them to sculpt a new body?

For me it's definitely adding a cloth cape to figures that missed out. As mentioned above, I always thought the emperor would have been really cool with a cloth cape.

As a kid I never bought Luke X Wing til ROTJ as I didn't like his face. Even now although I like him he still looks a bit Playpeople to me, he's not cool like Farmboy. Cantina aliens clothes aren't right but I still prefer them to modern line 'screen accurate' figures. The simplicity of the vintage line adds to the appeal I think.

Luke Poncho with a removable helmet - gets my vote too, bloody useless figure & I still hate it, hell at least the fury bloody ewoks which I am far from keen on had a decent sculpt.

For the most part I was happy enough with the figure, but fell more attention should have been paid to making a more diverse range of weapons & accessories.

walrus man - who the hell decided on that colour combo  really should have stuck with the plan & gone with the colour scheme of theprototype as I think he's a bit garish & heavy on the eye.

& the ever obvious han carbonite, WTF where they thinking with the He Man sculpt, also found it rather annoying that the block was made for the figure to slot in so they sculpted the block with hands down - No No No, thats not the way he was bloody frozen!  just always bugs me, maybe more that the shitty sculpt.

Yep. That figure...crap all round!!

Takara touched on this with some of their original product range to make them more appealing...
Darth had a crossbow, C3PO launced missiles from his chest and R2D2 fired mini discs form just below his head. You wouldnt wanna mess with these bad boys if they were armed like that in the movies..

The Ewoks could be improved by not being made in the first ****ing place!

True dat

Cloth capes for all. The cloth capes and other material cloaks and coats they did were really cool. But why for the first run make Jawa cloth capes and not Ob1 or DV etc? Han Endor's coat looks like some work went into it, so why didn't they change to cloth capes later in the run. Why stick with the exact same version of the figure all through the toy run :?

Making those wonky legged figures stand up straight - security gaurd and Luke Hoth

For a start it would be nice if they just held their damn weapons! I realised when I was taking the group shots in my limelight thread that a lot of loose figures can't hold their weapon straight or in some cases at all.

Re Jawa cloth question, from what I have hear (not sure how much truth but seems logical) they considered many children may think they were being ripped off as the figure was only half as big, so not as good a value as the others, so they changed the cape to a cloth version = bargain & happy customers, seems crazy but hey it's always the craziest stories that end up being the truth :?

Makes sense I guess. Tiny figure made to look posher with a cloth cape. It worked :)

Actually the Jawa was originally meant to have his vinyl cape just like Obi-Wan, Vader, Leia and Sand People, but because all 12 first run figures cost the same to buy, but the Jawa was only a tiddler compared to the others, Kenner quickly made a running change from a vinyl cape to a soft goods one to add 'perceived value' to the Jawa figure. In other words, to make it look more worth its price tag. It's a happy decision for us collectors in one respect because the cloth caped Jawa looks about a billion times better than the vinyl caped version... and a diabolically bad one for us collectors as it means we have to pay through the nose today if we want a vinyl one.

Kenner did of course make running changes to some other figures as well, but they never decided to switch any other vinyl capes for soft goods ones, which is a great shame IMHO. I also think a completely retooled Darth Vader wouldn't have been an outrageous choice for them to make for Jedi. They made Luke Stormtrooper with a removable helmet, so it would have been nice to have seen a better Vader with a removable one too.
