Thanks for the kind words guys but I've had so many messages asking about my injury it'd be easier to say in one go.

I've had a pretty bad, and funny at times, things with injuries this year. So here goes......

In January I went to the doctor due to frequently twisting/spraining my right ankle. I never go to the doctor. The one I asked for had retired 5 years earlier. I was prepared with a speech of why I needed something done about it after putting up with it for 20 years but she was awesome and sent me for an MRI. MRI showed a lot of tissue damage and need a specialist.

February: Off I went. Too complex for specialist as there was 3 separate issues which all needed fixed. Had to wait for a specialist of the specialists. MRI showed some arthritis  , some cartilage damage and some wear to ligaments. Quick fix (6 weeks) and I'd be done.

March: 1st major operation. Showed that arthritis was actually 90% damage   :( , ligaments were ****ed, and that when they cleaned my ankle the cartilage came away. It's the one thing they can't replace/repair cartilage. So after 6 weeks we decided on next op after some physio.

May: 2nd major operation. Drill lots of small holes into my ankle bones, reroute blood vessels through the holes, protect against arthritis. Formulate a plan for ligament repair. Not possible. Remove ligaments and plan to put in artificial ligaments. Repeated minor key hole ops in the weeks.

June: 3rd major op. New ligaments inserted.

August: no lateral movement even with extreme force (****ing hurt though). Would need to consider artificial ankle if movement did not happen. possibly as a result of physio stress fractures appear on the top bones on my foot. Stop physio. But I got lateral movement!!!! :D

Sept: Stop physio again due to new intense pain. WTF is going on? Didn't have pain like this after any point in the last few ops.

Oct: New MRI and Xray with super specialist. Arthritis has got a lot worse (how is that possible? 90% sounds bad enough!) and the bones in my ankle are crumbling/degenerating. Gotta go back early Dec (Farthest From  !!!!) to talk about next course of action.

Been a bloody long six weeks from February.

sure you're not using the Arsenal medical team Rich?

Sounds a nightmare you cant miss FF

Thomas Rosicky, Abu Diaby rolled into one.

And I need my left ankle done too at some point. I think I'll wait 2 years for that one though after this experience.

Sorry to hear this Richard was wandering how you were getting on yesterday, but didn't seem right to PM you again for some reason. :? Online stalking and all that sort of stuff crossed my mind. Hope you get some positive news soon.

Damn Richard,

That sucks. I feel your pain and know where you're coming from. For me, it's my knees. Left knee basically has no cartilage left, so it's practically bone on bone. Right knee has approximately 10% of the cartilage left, so while those bones are still technically protected, it won't last much longer. Found out after an MRI to figure out why my knees have been so horrible since I was a kid. For the time being, it's prescription pain killers when I'm working to handle stair/ladder climbing and kneeling required for my job as a construction plumber. My future sees silicone injections to try and artificially have something between the bones.

Hope the surgery in December fixes it for you.

Ian

Sorry to hear that mate. I've seen your FB posts about your ops and was hoping they were gonna solve the problem.
I hope they find some sensible so,ution, although it sounds like they've tried a hell of a lot already.

Thoughts are with you.

Rich,

I know its been a shitty year mate, and im hoping it gets better for you bud. That is a very rough ride, and would knock the wind out of anyone,s sails.

Im sure you will come out of the tunnel to a brighter, healthier future mate.

This is an xray of my old knee injury, and im over it :D

It's hanging out his arse Iain.

Haha :D i went to curl one out at work today and i thought king kongs finger had popped out of my arse-talk about straining, there were nail gouges on the toilet walls :D

Seriously bud, i really hope things turn around for you. A little humour always helps. I remember when i had a stroke in 2007 that my nephew kept calling me Kaizer Soze as my left side was very weak for a while , and my left foot was slightly curved inwards :D the little bastard still says it today :D

that nuts  ! i wondered what would of happened if you never went to the doctors in the first place. i suppose your ankle would of snapped  .
i hope 2016 is better for you rich :)

Rich, sounds like you've been through the mill alright. Sucks arse and I hope things start looking up without the extensive surgery required for a Steve Austin like ankle. What do they think brought it on? Are you a runner or keen footballer?

Rich you know I've got a thousand sympathies for you with your **** luck and **** northern genes. But that X-Ray of Lee's just made me chuckle out loud.
Get properly fixed soon mate.

Just to get this straight, thats not really my xray :D Do you really think that if i was hung like that i would hang about on a forum of SW nerds :D

I did actually rupture my ligaments/cartilage in my left knee in my last year at school, fecking hurt like hell but i recovered.

I know Rich will get there :D

March 23rd:

The final operation that can be done on my ankle. My bones are breaking down and it has spread through to the metatarsals in my foot. No idea what this means for the future. They're concentrating on the ankle solely at present. 6 weeks in plaster again coming up.

Why don't you plan your ops for the summer holidays, you teachers get enough holiday each year without going off sick for six weeks, bloody northerners just don't want to work.

On a serious note, hope it gets better pal, anything I can do you know where I am
