Valuation please for possible trade with forum member.

Card has some issues, is a little split on its left hand side.

Bubble has a couple of cracks and a little hole at the bottom.

Has special offer Nien Numb sticker on back.

That is a lovely piece, and very rare. Never seen one in my whole time collecting.
Price wise at a guess I'd say £400-500, although be interesting to see what everybody else thinks.

One of those things that is hard to put a price on due to rarity, it's easily as rare as some of the Palitoy MOCs selling for thousands, but just depends if the demand is there.

Goodness me, I did not see that valuation coming!

If anyone else has got an view, please chip in.

This is known as a 45BD on my palitoy matrix:-

http://www.freewebs.com/mrpalitoy/esb45bcardback.htm

"The Palitoy factory ran out of Palitoy 45B cards for some of it's figures and used German General Mills and Dutch Clipper cards which were also manufactured in the Coalville factory. These cards had a Palitoy sticker covering the entire bottom half of the reverse of the card to cover up the German and Dutch writing. This sticker had the same text as on the back of the bottom half of the 45C variation. The front of the German ESB card is identical to the front of the 45B. Several figures appeared with this sticker on a German card, AT-AT Commander and Dengar for example. "

Thats a new entry on the matrix, never seen one before. Rare, worth the valuation put down so far.

cheers Jason

Thanks Jason for that insight.

Not sure which I am more excited about. The figure or its entry on your matrix! Pleased that I've contributed.

   Thousands rather than hundreds possibly. :?

Not sure about thousands - Edd made a good comment on Bill McBride's DT Ben post - rarity does not always = more money - there are plenty low quantity production items that don't even sell for the price of a Trilogo Yak MOC - lots of factors - figure, condition and general desirability.

It is hard to put a value on something like this - I guess it would appeal to ESB Card variation collectors and obviously R2 focus collectors - so would probably depend on how many of those guys want this

Yes I agree, possible for it to go for more than £1000 but I doubt it. :)

Updated the 45b page:-

http://www.freewebs.com/mrpalitoy/esb45bcardback.htm

"Several figures appeared with this sticker on a German card, AT-AT Commander, Dengar and R2-D2 with sensorscope for example. There is still the German writing that says jetzt mit Sensorscope on the front of the R2-D2 with sensorscope card which they chose not to cover up. "

And added to the matrix:-

Sparky P on starwarsforum with a 45BD Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2) (With Sensorscope) addition to the matrix on 20/11/15

cheers Jason

So glad this R2 has surfaced and been recognized for what it is.

It has revealed a valuable insight into what's, potentially, out there. I have only been back in collecting 6 short months or so. In that time I have come across two uber-rare items in "old" collections (i.e. put together prior to 2000). The other item, I later learned, was one of only two known to exist and now there is this item; the first known to exist. Neither of these collections are on the Gus Lopez scale of things, I'm sure neither owner would mind me saying that; they're small collections put together years ago. In the other case they had then sat in the loft for 15 years. Just how many more unique, rare or just bloody exciting vintage SW items are out there that the owner isn't even aware of how rare they are?

If the hype around the new films has pushed prices up and brought speculators and fakers into the market then it has also re-awakened interests in some ex-collectors or prompted them to root around for their collections. Hopefully we'll see many more rarities surface over the next few years.

Is anyone interested in making me an offer or a trade for him? I'm after 12/20/21 backs.

He should be in someone's collection rather than my cupboard. Ideally want to get him into someone's collection off this forum or the FB groups coz the sense of community is very refreshing.

Given the state of the bubble, which I think looks worse in pictures than it does reality, a handover in person would probably be safest. I'm in the north west but would consider meeting someone half way to exchange.
