I've not bought much in recent years, but looking on ebay now all US sales have automatic import fees. a Pal 3PO that sold for $255 had import fees of $80 as well as postage!

One seller sent me a separate invoice so that I took my chances this end, and got hit with UK customs anyway

does anyone know if I pay ebay import fees will I still get hit with UK customs? Seems like a big scam to me

i bought a moc from ebay with this global shipping programme , i paid the tax at the time during checkout , the moc was shipped over to a firm called citipost in coventry and once they got it they shipped it to me by royal mail i had no additional charges to pay

cheers Slim - I wasn't sure how the US sellers maed it work. If I ship something to the US I just pay Royal Mail and forget about it.

i was dubious at first myself , but i really wanted the moc for the focus so i took the plunge ! i could track my parcel the whole way to the uk which is really good and as i have read bad reviews about citipost online once my parcel was in coventry i rang them and they said it was being delivered to me using royal mail , they used couriers in the past and alot of parcels were not being delivered and returned to the usa so using royalmail is a good thing now !

might bite the bullet in future - there is a giant Han Hoth that has import fees that are putting me off

Ask one of the US guys to buy it and then ship it to you as gift and valued at $20

probably not worth it on thsi one - import is $20 which will probably be the same as internal Us postage, but I may well do that on a higher value item - good thinking :)

I took the plunge with the GSP Program a US seller was offering, did um and arh about it...thinking what a bloody con having to pay import charges upfront and wondering whether I'd get hit again at the UK end.

However surprising quick and efficient service and no extra costs to pay. The only downside is they do open the package to check the contents. I could tell mine had been opened but everything was in order so still satisfied with the service overall.

Yes they will repackage all items before they are sent on the last leg of the trip, this is to insure that ebay are not hit with any additional charges and the item is correctly labeled and match the contents but the plus side is that you wont have to pay any extra handling fee or taxes when it arrives.

I have used this service before and i got hit with 0 extra charges,if the seller is not using ebay to handle the automatic import charges then you will get stung with the charges.
Remember you pay import charges on the value of the item + the postage, so if you buy an item for $30 with $30 postage the import charges are calculated around the item being valued at $60.

Two words for you ****ed UP!

More words - I would rather go without an item rather than be part of the global shipping program, they can suck my chocolate salty balls!, who wants there item opened & inspected by some spotty teeeny twat once its been well packed by a trusted seller, **** you ebay & your global shipping rip off program

if you read the terms it doesnt include UK customs duty, so you can pay fees on top of the GSP program which is basically a premium for letting ebay take care of the postage and then they cover you if it goes missing.

its a massive whole scale scam, especially as they auto enrol US sellers in it, and they wonder why international sales have dropped.

Couldnt have put it better myself!

Have had to use this 40-50 times easy in the last year. Never any extra charges.

Still sucks though - but so does the whole 20% tax on **** bought from outside of EU. Its bollocks.

It gets things here faster, but the courier service used here stinks big time. I've used it twice and have been appalled at the delivery, first package was left by my backdoor with no delivery note posted, the second was left by my frontdoor, again no note.
Thankfully my neighbour took that second parcel in her house until I got home, I live on a busy street and had she not I'm convinced it would of been nicked.
