Just doing my homework on some items for sale and I'm really struggling to value my show piece, an original vintage Early Bird set.

So, going through it..

The box is in good condition. One of the small flaps has detached but is still there in the tray
The tray is in good condition. Has a couple of cracks holes matching the bottom of R2s legs
All the pegs exist but unbagged
The DT luke is MINT. It is bagged but the bag is open
The leia is bagged and unopened. Legs are slightly discoloured
Chewie is unbagged. Mint with green crossbow.
R2 is dark and MINT. Unbagged.
Also has the original vintage catelogue.

Soooo, what do you guys think? Im struggling.

Heres a couple of picks...

Tough one to call with 2 figures not in baggies, the Liea is also in a bag not suitable for the set (from what I know?) as its an ESB-a baggie & not a SW issued one, is the DT luke a tape sealed one that the tape has come loose or just not sealed?? as some did aparently come just bagged (no seal).

I would say just put it on auction as it will find its own price & lately they have been commanding a premium, so your never going to loose on it.

Good luck

Hi Frank, That Leia Baggie really interests me, it seems to turn up quite often in EB sets i know there is every possibility that its a replaced Leia but i do wonder if these are EB baggies here is a graded example that sold recently, all perfect same ESB type Leia Baggie. Jamie can you get a close up pic of Leias face please?

I think you're right James. I've seen the Leia in a couple of eb sets in the same Baggie.

Sorry Jamie i know this is a Valuation request thread and im running it all over the place, Apologies guys, If you could check the Leia face against this one and let me know VIA PM that would be really kind. i am interested in these baggies as AFA class it as an ESB type when its on its own yet grade it with a EB set.

The baggie in your pic is a SW-c baggie, not an ESB baggie, or did I misread you?

Ahhhhhhh your right! see i know **** all about baggies so no one should listen to my rantings :) many thanks for clearing that one up Tundra :)

Can't say, couldn't find any on completed listings on the bay, and I haven't seen any for sale on the forums lately.

A pm to Frank would be your best bet.

Tundra is indeed on the ball, the graded one has a correct SW-c baggie not an ESB-a style.

The value of the ESB-a one is nothing to sniff at though at between £80 & £120, I would say in the middle of that estimate would be fair if the figure & baggie were mint, with the "pink leg syndrome" I would put it at between £45 & £60 though as not a lot of collectors will want it with the plastic discolouration with I am pretty sure is a reaction with the plastic of the figure or the pigment of the colouration of it & the actual baggie, very common though with the white figures & almost always present with the Hoth Luke figure in baggie.

Your best bet may well be to split the set up as all the parts go for a premium as they do seem to be flavour or the year, the alternative would be to hunt the baggies to complete the set (good luck with that though).

As luck would have it I have a loose Early Bird Leia so the baggie comes out and the loosie goes in. So a complete loose Early Bird set. And it looks lovely.

Cheers guys

Here's a couple examples of loose sets that should help give you an idea on price.

Do you also have the instructions/mail away stand offer insert? Also which version of the insert catalog do you have? Both of these can help add to the value if you have them and the version.

Here's examples of mine. The 1st version of the catalog is smaller and only shows the characters faces rather than any pictures of the figures.
