A seller from the States has said to me he can declare the value whatever I want, but that is only what it can be insured for.

Value of item is $250, so obviously this is going to attract Custom Charges. If I ask him to put a value of say $25, then that's what he will insure it for.

My question is if the item does not get delivered to me and I pay through Paypal and they find in my favour will I be reimbursed the whole $250?

I just find it odd the seller would risk this? or am I missing something :? :?

I believe that is true. In this country the customs form has no relevance to the insurance value declared but I think that in the States they print them out together - so you can't mark it with a low value and ask for high insurance

I think paypal would still find in your favour is there was damage tho - providing that you don't pay via gift

Hi.

You will be reimbursed, but I think that the unsaid law is enforced here.

If you ask the seller to declare a low value he is doing you a massive favour but it is at your OWN risk. Meaning that is you want to avoid customs charges then declare a low value but if it all goes wrong its on your own head.

I think its unfair to ask for a low value to be declared then sting the seller if it all goes wrong.

Cheers.

I agree with Bram, if you ask the seller to declare a lower value to avoid tax if it goes wrong the buyer must take responsibility.

When Im shipping to the Uk i always use the code from this thread HERE.
So far none of the packages have been hit by customs. I always prefer to declare full value for ease of mind and especially if shipped fully insured. I agree with the above, that if someone asks for a lower declared value, the responsibility then goes to the buyer
