Hi,

I collected various Star Wars items from a child (early 80's) through to 2006 (ish!) and have made the decision, as I can't display it and my wife isn't as keen on it taking up the spare room as I am, that its time to sell!

I've read the tips on selling on here but ideally I want to sell to someone who can come round and view it, buy it and take it, as I'd hate anything to get damaged in the post.

I will happily email lists of items and/or photos but initially wanted to see if anyone is local to me and a serious buyer who might want to view?

I've vintage things, mainly unboxed but some boxed, and the majority of 'new' things (1995 on) boxed. I'd say majority of things are from 1995 on as they were more affordable to me at the time collecting. Figures, vehicles, play sets, smaller models and items like pin badges, danglers, cast iron vehicles and more.

Collection is a mixture of European, English and American boxed items as I generally went for the figure or vehicle rather than packaging.

There is too much to list in one post so any tips or interest welcome.

Happy to answer any questions etc

Thanks

Keith

Hey
Welcome to the forum
I know you say lists and photos on request but as a new poster a few up front would go a long way. It would also get you good feedback on valuations etc.
I can't talk much about the vintage stuff as i am newish to collecting the figures, but most loose figures tend to go for an average of a few £'s a fig, some more depending on their rarity, other will know better.
As for the modern if you post a list i can give you a better idea (I switched from modern collecting to vintage about 12 months ago) but as a rule most carded modern figures are worth £4-£6 (that goes for all modern really 1995-current) with the convention and store exclusives going higher, there are the odd random ones that do very nicely however, so it does pay to know (Separation of twins figures can go for between £30-£40 each, closer to £40 if you have the pair), vehicles do OK, boxed and nice examples of POTF2 stuff can do well, the AT-AT and Falcon can got for £100 each on a good day. Episode 1 tends to be low rent stuff figures barely go for a few pounds with the exception of one of the astro droids, R2-B1 I got £20 for mine a while back. The royal starship does well but most of the other stuff is not so hot.
without a list it isn't much to go on.
Last thing any vintage stuff will stand a good chance of selling up here, modern not so much, there are a few fans about.
best of luck with the sale
matt

Thanks Monkey Roo, I have a rough idea what things are worth but saying that when I got in tonight and grabbed a few bits to put some photo's on I have so much I may well need to do some more research!!!

I've attached a mix of things that were in the first few boxes I picked up. Hope they show I'm genuine and have a real mix to sell.

I'll work on a list but no idea when I'll get the time as there is a lot here...

I really wanted to sell as a whole collection but I'm guessing that will probably mean a collector with a fair few quid and locally which is probably unrealistic? Do you think I should sell in smaller lots?

Any helpful tips greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Keith

Hey
I doubt you will get a buyer for the lot or at least one that matches the value of the collection. To give you an idea the average dealer that (other than a hard core collector with deep pockets) would be the only avenue would be looking to make 300-400% on their investments. I estimated my 1000 piece modern collection cost around £14k(ish) to build up (1995-2011) with but the highest dealer offer was only £4k.
In the end there was too much to Evilbay (and there is a lot on there so it is saturated as a market and the hassle factor was too high for me) that I found a bricks and mortar comic store in central London that sold the collections for me and took a cut. I wound up keeping a few bits for my kids and selling others, certainly did better than the dealer offer, but it has taken 12 month to shift.
Individual and small lots are going to be your best bet I would say.

Thanks again Monkey Roo. So would you recommend selling through a dealer such as the one you found who will sell for you and take a cut? HAppy for you to PM me the name as I work in town and can pop in and have a chat!!

Is it good to sell the rarer things on here or ebay?

Sorry if the 'e' word is swearing on here! It seems to be held in low regard!!

I'm worried about selling in groups of things as I can see me being left with all the common things unable to sell...

Personally, yes i can recommend selling through a shop. but i am a bit lazy. I weighed up the amount of time and hassle i would have to sell on the web or in the classifieds and factored in any Evilbay and PP fees and trips to the post office v's the relative hassle free approach of driving into town and dropping of the toys with a shop to do the work (it took many, many trips though :))
I will PM you the details of the shop i used/use but i am sure there are others as well. But for sure separate out the vintage stuff and list that up here as that will probably be your best option and represent you best return for the sale.
