Childhood for sale...

Hello all,

I'm 44, have a wife and three children, and the time has come to sell my star wars toys.

It's a large and comprehensive collection. I was the kid that bought all his friends toys when they went off them. I kept the boxes. I've got it all.

The problem is I'm a bit out of touch with collectors, fan-sites and such. I really don't know where to start.

I read a piece in the paper last year (Telegraph? FT?) about getting large collections valued and auctioned, so I guess I'm looking for an expert who deals in such things. Does anyone have an auction house contact, or know a specialist who deals in large collections?

I'd be very grateful to be introduced to such a contact.

It's a dream collection; a full set of figures and weapons, most ships and playlets boxed and near mint. A boxed and complete Palitoy Death Star, a vinyl jawa, the list goes on and on.

I've done a lot of research and have seen what these items can reach on eBay etc. But I just don't have the ability to sell and post everything separately, hence I thought it could all be auctioned.

Any advice and insight would be gratefully received.

Thank you,

Nick

Nick,

Post some pictures on here and the guys can give you a ball park figure for what your stuff is worth.
If you've done your research you'll know prices vary, so what may get £100 one day will get £70 the next and £120 the week after.
You may get someone on here who is willing to buy it in bulk from you. However, I suspect they will probably want to pay slightly less than market value, to allow them to make a little money if they then sell on what they don't want or need. TBF that may still work out better for you than letting an auctioneer take his/her commission from your sale price, but of course it's entirely up to you.

Good Luck with your sales anyway.
