Blue Snaggletooth-

Rare?

There's always plenty for sale, they do command exspensive price especially for graded.

So how rare are they? Is there an estimate of how many exsist?

Can I have one?

I think years ago before the Internet, it would have been a lot trickier to get one. Nowadays, there's always loads for sale on eBay. I can't understand why they're so expensive. It's the same with the vc jawa.
God knows how many there are, but there's probably twice as many vc jawas as blue snaggletooth. It's one of those figures that's perceived to be rarer than it actually is.

I agree, pre-Internet could have effected the perceived rarity of these pieces.

Is there any ideas of quantity?

Another thing is. In pre internet days i think people thought that it was only Possible to get a Blue Snag from the Sears Cantina until they found out it was released as a baggie too :)

I thought the Baggie version was the one that came in the sears set?

Yes it was :)

Blue Snags aren't rare, neither are Yaks, VCJ's or DT Luke's - just perceived rarity very likely stemming from pre internet days, prices never dropped as they have always remained popular "must have" figures for any serious collector.

:? I am sure it also came in a 2 pack guys?

There was one FS in Dermots Huge Collection if I remember right :?

Please correct me if I am wrong :)

The 2 pack with Greedo was available actually it's true, but I think this was also a sears exclusive just like the cantina that snag was included in and it is the only multipack it was available in (ever), so it is very much linked to the cantina and that sears exclusive set.

Bagged was the only way to get the figure and sears was the only place that sold him.

(edited for clarity!)

My understanding is that you have the 2Pack Blue Snag w/ Greedo and then the Cantina playset. However, the multipack boxes are exactly the same and both were exclusive to sears. The figure was packaged in a baggie either way that you got him. It just depended on wether or not your parents felt like splurging for 2 extra figures and some cardboard. :)

Edit: Here's a link to the Sears catalog. Seeing that, it actually makes you wonder if the 2 packs were indeed sold separate from the cantinas or not where red Snag is shown in the 2 pack listing. Also, the 2 pack boxes with the red snag have red writing on them. Also, this thread has a pic of how the cantina was packaged. You can see it came with the 2 2 pack boxes that had the baggie figures inside.

The first time I knew of the Blue Snag was back in 94 when I got the Sansweet book.

When I actually saw one in person in 99, along with the first VCJ I had ever seen, it was an awesome moment. I kept going back to the stand at the collectors fair to have a look.

Both were on sale for £250

Since then I've learnt so much more about the toys, rarity and all the other things that were available that I've forgotten how amazing these things were back in the early days of my collecting.

Rare is such a strange term in this hobby. The blue is certainly rarer than the red, but really not someting that is rare. Have a quick look on eBay. There's loads. Even AFA ones sell for less that the £250 they were back in 99. I've got 3. Who was it who had 20 or so of them and Yaks?

The internet is great, but at times it feels like it has taken some of the joy/thrill out of collecting.

Couldn't agree more. I first learnt about in Sansweets first book.

Do you know anything about the significance of the dented boot?

I think the dented boot version was manufactured near the end of blue snags run. I heard that it was a fault on the later mold that made the dent on the boot. I'm not sure if that's the truth, but that's what I read somewhere a while back.
I think the un dented version sells for a bit more, but I don't think there's much difference in value.

I read on RS there is a correlation between the dented/non dented version and a paint app on the one hand that gives the appearance of a closed fist that has recently surfaced.
Grant I think the dented foot is just a mould variation. From my experience the non dent is definitely scarcer. It doesn't seem to attract any premium though.

I would say over the few years I have been collecting again (about five) the blue snag has dropped in value, while the Yak Face and VC Jawa have increased a lot. Especially Yak face, he was £50-60 for a mint one, whereas they are selling for over a £100 mint one now.

While the internet definitely changed things and may have destroyed the thrill of the hunt..would you rather still be paying £250 for a Blue Snag when you can get one any day of the week for £80?

The internet has definitely changed things but I think the good outweighs the bad.

Oh and if you want to read the best (and probably the least known) fact/bit of info about Blue Snag, check out this article which explains the origin of his buckle emblem :)

Talk about genius :D (or laziness)

Since seeing the SDCC exclusive large one its the first time I ever wanted a blue snaggletooth and is a tiny bit cheaper too plus no rubs on the silver boots.
