Autograph / Prop sub section

Hi all,

Ive consulted Edd about this but wanted to see if there would be any interest or call for another subforum to be added. Ive noticed more and more people are getting into autographs and also noticed a few chatting about replica props etc. I thought it may be a good idea that we have a section where people can ask about the authenticity of autographs aswell as ask for valuations etc on such pieces. With the new movie being released next year, the scam merchants with be out in force and you will be amazed how some people can pay silly money for something they have knocked up at home. I will be able to help on many, and can also provide links to allow people to become more up to date with autograph knowledge and what to look out for. I also have through the mail addresses for various Star Wars actors and behind the scenes persons both here and in the USA etc, and have had loads of successess. However, Prowse will not sign for free (for the Podcast Prowse fan :wink: ). I will also add a guide for polite TTM ettiquette, and hopefully save you a few quid off of some good signers. Remember we have to give them a little treat, but it is always easier to do it from the comfort of your home rather than queue up at conventions.

It can also be a place where we can discuss props, whether they be offical replicas, genuine props or prop kits. Again, i can provide info on most of these and can also help with advice about prop sellers, prop kits and so on. We can also keep toy repaints/modifications in this thread too

Anyway, it was just an idea. If no one sees a call for it, then no worries but with autographs especially, you need to keep your wits about you. Prepare to see TPM posters signed by Peter Cushing hit the market next year :shock: :lol: :roll:

Great idea Lee, I've picked up a few graphs recently, but I'm a bit of a novice, so I've bought opx items with the shield to be safe.

Any insight into fakes/forgeries that people have or thinking of buying would be really interesting to a novice like myself.

the autograph posts that come in here are hilarious. They usually go something like this:

"I have this rare item autographed by x and its worth loads. Who wants to buy it"

Followed by a polite suggestion it needs provenance or that it might not be real, by one of the autograph guys on here (Normally Lee )

Followed by:

"**** you all. What do you know. Your all ****ing losers!!!!"

On a more serious note, particularly with the plethora of crap Disney will release as well as all the new signers for the new films, an autograph section could be well used in the coming years.

Yeah great idea. I would do an autograph section and a seperate prop section. I'm not into autographs but I would frequent a prop section and I think a lot of people would love it.

Maybe try to do a headcount of those that would actually use it first (or a poll?) I know we have some autograph guys on the forum but I doubt the majority of the SWF members are into either autos or props

It's Edd's choice of course but the risk with creating a new section of the forum for a minority is that at some point it stops being used.

I voted yes but I still think they need to be seperate whole sub-sections (two new orange buttons on home page) where people can start individual threads for each project/subject or showcase, not just one thread. I think there may be more people interested in props and autographs than you realise. Just my opinion :wink:

Would definitely like to see this. Have picked up a few autographs but would love to see collections, advice on storing them etc

Props, don't own any but would certainly enjoy reading an learning about them.

Thats the idea Joe, it will turn some of you guys into propoholics You know you want to build an 8D8

Mark G is also a very talented prop maker/costumer and could add a lot if insight. You will be amazed when you see what you could build, or possibly own, whether it be a single lightsaber or blaster

One point I would make is that people who have no interest in autographs or props will probably not bother reading this thread and thus won't see the poll.
