Are tons of BIN's causing people to bid more on the auctions

One thing I have noticed on eBay in the vintage starwars carded section in the huge rise in the number of Buy it Nows and Buy It Now's with Best Offer or items with really high starting prices that don’t get any bid's / sell.

This means less and less good items are left to run on auctions with low starts sometimes only 1 or 2 a day. What I have noticed is many items that are left to run on auction actually sell for more than some of there Buy It Now equivalents.

I’ve even seen items not sell for ages on Buy It Now then when the seller decides to place it on auction with a low start it sells for more than the original Buy It Now price!

Personally I think many people love a good old auction fight and with so few options coming up we end all locking on to the same items and consequently drive the price up. I know this from people’s comments and speaking with people via PM.

Has any body else noticed this trend?

yeah definately,

i had a MOTU scare glow on BIN for £230, best offer i got was £140, put one on an auction and got £190 for it.......
it can go wrong sometimes, i think people are selling because of the recession and redundancies, but want to try guarantee they get the right price.

There are definately less auctions on Ebay now, but that may well be because fewer people are selling on there.
I think with the change in fee structure others are trying to hedge their bets by putting a BIN/OBO up probably hoping someone offers to deal outside Ebay and that way save themselves some money.

Another example today

A seller sold 2 tri logo's today one for £88 and the other for £93.98 yet the seller had previously listed them with a start bid of £75 and BIN of £150 and none of them recieved any bids lol.

Clearly an example of auctioning fever and people getting in to bidding wars but here lies the point of this thread these moc's were probably the only decent MOC's ending this afternoon as they are surrounded by BIN's these days.

Surely some of the bidders must have watched them from before when they could have snapped them up for £75 but where would the fun have been in doing that!

i have never sold anything at a buy now price...........its a waste of time, i bet ebay would admit to it being so if it wouldnt effect there profits.....

the whole esence of ebay is to grab a bargain, not to buy at full price!

bidding fever gets the best of us.!!

I dont think BIN are a bad idea, you can negotiate a sale outside of ebay with sellers who drop in best offers, wheras its a gamble with an auction, i have some shocking results with auctions (also some excellent ones) but with a BIN i have time to negotiate with buyers.
Not always helpfull but can stop you losing money if you are desperate not to.
