Hey Guy's,,

Are you lot still using UKG or has everyone gone back to AFA??

From looking around the forums, it seems people do prefer AFA but it's no good to us in the U.K...

Just out of interest does anyone know a rough price for a MOC to be graded by UKG compared to the cost of one graded by AFA, I presume the shipping to and from AFA would cost a fortune.

Cheers,

I only use UKG I think the quality is at least as good as AFA now sometimes even better, certainly so for the baggies I have done, never had a MOC graded with them though, you have the added bonus of him being easy to deal with less postage cost so less risk (hopefully) in the post & he is a collector himself so actually cares about what he is doing, I am biased though having had some bad experiences with stuff cased at AFA myself.

Just IMO obviously though.

Check there website for prices VS AFA, here is the page you need -

Steve really does offer a great personal service, that's the real advantage IMO. AFA is like dealing with a black hole.

In order to help with your question, i've dug out this old thread which i created after using UKG for the first time.

It really depends on what you want; protection, collection or an investment to sell on.

Whilst we have UKG (and there is no sign of them going anywhere, i quickly add), i'm never going to send anything over the pond to AFA. The process seems like too much of a ball ache, and a greater risk of damage.

I sent a game to AFA/VGA in March. It arrived back last week, in July  On the other hand, last time I sent a game to Steve, I got it back (in a custom made case) in less than 2 weeks.

Just put my first order in with Steve and so far so good. E-mailed a question and literally under 2 minutes later, I had a response. Exceptional service so far and I'm sure the rest will be just the same.

AFA Black hole may be right. I submitted some MOCs to them last month, and got an invoice saying they would be completed 5th July. I emailed them yesterday only to be told they are running approx 6 weeks late! I only used AFA out of convenience as my seller was located in the US, but I've got an uneasy feeling about the whole thing, especially as I haven't clapped eyes on any of the items, only on photos :?

i still use UKG, steves a top guy, only flaw is sometimes getting figs back can be slow, like 3-4 weeks but id rather use UKG than AFA anyday.

I had the same debate and decided to go with UKG - the cost and risk of sending to the USA is too great and it does seem like a black hole - Steve at UKG is brilliant - I have sent my first 7 items to be graded and have had emails and phone calls with him - top bloke and I feel at ease

I would be too worried sending to AFA and the time length is just too long

UKG all the way. And if all us Europeans use UKG it will keep the profile up and be equally as respected as AFA if it isn't already

That's my view anyway

Garry

I was using AFA but i have 3 figures i need grading soon that i will send into ukg instead as cant be arsed waiting over a month to get figures back.
plus the cases are just as good although on resale you wont get as much.
