I wonder if im the only one of a buying break at the minute? After todays Vectis auctions, it made me realise how much things are spiralling out of control. I know its down to the new movie and Facebook mongs but jesus, some of those prices are ridiculous. This hobby is getting too expensive-roll back the good ole, days

Congrats to any winners today :D

Yeah only because I'm skint and the items I am after are either to much or not available. You can still get some deals on ebay, noticed some sensible prices on auctions and BIN. But then again some prices are just ridiculous.

i haven't spent much this year at all. its been amazing too see all these finds pop up and quality surface, all due too the tfa i suppose, but is has driven prices imo

ive had a fair few months buying break this year (prices have got me down at times and ive been out gunned on auctions (ebay/vectis) alot and its made me loose the bug of collecting abit ) i still look mind and buy the odd bit

A lot less Star Wars for me this year and more other vintage and modern toy lines. It's always nice to pick up a few bits every now and then but I think I'm done with the more expensive Star Wars items for now ( now that I've got a complete, all original 15" IG88 to complete my loose 12" run). I gave up on mocs along time ago and even some reseals have gotten out of hand but at least there's only one or two I'd like to upgrade.

Still enjoy seeing what's out there and I thought there were some fairly reasonable 30 backs that sold today but it's still not as low a price as I wish they were. It's been a fantastic year for Vintage Star Wars with the Vectis auctions and it sounds like there's still a bit more to go. It's never nice to be priced out of something but I guess we all need to draw a line somewhere and maybe it's the right time to just sit back and enjoy what we already have. I find the fact that I have a small ish display cabinet means I have to rotate my collection every now and then and that seems to keep things fresh :D

I've had a stupidly successful and consequently expensive year, so clearly a break would be financially sensible.

Luckily i've completed most of the things I wanted and there nothing new I want to venture down, so a break will be forced upon me anyway!

The remaining pieces i want turn up very infrequently so that'll give me the time to let my bank balance recover! :D

I have had a long enough break, so I have to play catch up, however I am shocked on how much prices have gone up and gutted to be priced out on things that I wanted :(

Even though I got 2 figure today that I was desperate for, and they were for great prices, it was still an expensive day in the grand scheme of things. There's only a couple more MOCs I'm after to feel like I have all the ones I REALLY want, then I will chill on buying, and just wait for absolute bargains to present themselves. I don't know if the bigger thrill comes from nailing a bargain, or actually getting the bargain MOC itself. Can't imagine it's much fun having all the money in the world to throw at whatever you want, but of course, I wouldn't say no to it :D

The prices of things are just the nature of the beast. The items you want are more than likely the ones others want, therefore they are more expensive. I saw tons of MOCs going for between £25 & £100 today, and those prices on those cards really haven't changed that much in 20 years, so good for new collectors I guess.

I'm definitely slowing down on the palitoy 12 and 20bks - they are far, far more common than was thought even a year ago. A set can be completed pretty easily now so it makes no sense that they carry the huge premium they do at the moment. I could have completed at least 2 full sets of 12 this year, excluding vectis. A few years ago that would have been almost impossible - now there are CASES at auction.

I think there may be a few unhappy sellers in the future (I have definitely overpaid for 1 or 2 of mine so far). The people paying top money for c3po, sand people, storm trooper, r2 and dsc will struggle to get their money back Imo.

There are a few bits I will still pay high for, but yesterday at vectis I drew a blank despite setting myself a decent budget as most items simply weren't worth that much to me - and that spidey-sense usually serves me well. I see next year being interesting.

I can guarantee the second I say the words, 'I'm on lock down'! 10 things I 'NEED' come up for sale and I've crumbled! I do try and offset my SW buying by not drinking and spending on other stuff.

I think Max has a good point about people overpaying for some stuff, I've been very surprised about just how well prices on some of the Palitoy 12 backs have held up. Didn't yesterday's R2 go for over £1k with fees? Thats at least the same as the earliest of the auctions, when you'd expect the price to fall abit if anything.

I've had an expensive year in the scheme of things, and I've cooled off and just bought a few bits from the cheaper end of what I collect which is still a nice feeling as it keeps the collection moving but without the bank balance looking too terrible.

I haven't bought anything vintage for over two years. Kind of shocked by prices. Just really have a couple left I would desperately like.

I'm 18 off a full carded set but with prices these days I'm unlikely to complete it.

Oh no. My cardback collection has really grown this year and there's still more coming and many, many more to find so I can't see any kind of slow down at all for me. Heck I even managed to pick up another 4 from ebay last night.

Well it has been year of vintage collecting for me that quite frankly dreams r made of 8) 8)

Naturally it has been a year that has hit the wallet hard too :? So a break would b what the financial doctor has ordered :!:

Prob save a bit for Cel nx year

I have a feeling, though don't quote me on that feeling, that that will be the end of the mass Palitoy sales at Vectis for now. They had to have been timing all those sales for the run up to the film? Also, I noticed that the condition of the cards got slightly worse over the year. More creases and bubble dings, so selling the final scraps? Well we'll see when the next post Star Wars auction post TFA comes up. I would have bid upto £700 on a DSC in top condition before this auction, but now I'll max out at £500 if one comes up.

I'm very happy with where I am with my collection so could take a break at any time, full loose run, around 40 Mocs, loads of boxed ships/play sets.
I'm more keen on upgrading and selling what I have now, so whilst there are still parcels coming I the door I'll not really adding much new.
Really like finding the smaller items too, the odd instruction leaflet, flyer or something.
Probably only a handful of things I'd pull the trigger on immediately.

I've tried to take buying breaks, but every time I do stuff I want always comes up for sale, only other time it comes up is when I'm skint.
So the breaks never work out for me.

As I'm a collector of loose figs and I'm only 10 or so of the last 17 short of a full set I haven't got anything for a while due to the rise in their prices. Hopefully post TFA and with the new figs on the market, prices may drop. Not holding my breath though.

Unless everything is freely available in large quantities, I don't see how any of us can realistically take a break. It's generally the pieces we come across that determines when we buy. Let's face it if the right piece comes along I think most of us will break the bank. You've got to make hay whilst the suns shines and I feel "winter is coming".

^^^ This is where i'm at. Content :)

As far as Star Wars goes i'm happy with what I have. Picked up a R2 pop up and Blue Snag, two figures I wanted for about 20 years. Got all the ESB cards i wanted. My collection is a nice mix of different things but nothing amazingly flash, yet when people see it all set up they seem impressed. That'll do 8)

If I was to pick up anything else it would probably be other lines - Action Force, Indiana Jones, Transformers etc.
