i have hundreds of stamps from around the world from early 1890s-mid 1980s they were my grandads and mothers

to my amazement there like worth pennys each.

how can a stamp from 1897 be worth 20p and a beat up starwars figure be worth a couple of quid!

il let the ebay gods decide what there worth i suppose.

I'm not a stamp collector but my mother-in-law was. She has some great stuff, including first day covers, old stamps, etc... She decided to sell up and got it valued with exactly the same result; almost worthless.

Supply and demand I suppose.

I'm afraid that is it in a nutshell.
When I was a kid most other kids had a stamp album, now how many 6-12 year olds do?
And the same goes for collecting stamps, it's dying out (the same happens in all spheres of collecting eventually)
So with the above and the fact they were mostly printed in their millions you now have a collection that's almost worthless!
It's a shame...

I used to collect them as a kid and kept them for sentimental reasons, I only found one Victorian one that was worth anything, and that was only about £20 the rest hundreds of stamps not worth anything at all :( , I have got a strange stamp that has a wartime German stamp printed over the back of a British 30's stamp, wonder if anyone knows anything about that one , i'll try and dig it out and post a pic, but as I found with my child hood coin collection I tried to sell as well all worth f~~~# all :D

I was going to mention that coins are also mostly worthless!
They are almost impossible to give away.

I used to collect stamps as a kid too in the late 80's, I remember sending off for several hundred mixed stamps ( maybe 500 or so ) with my pocket money, remember being excited to see the amount of stamps that turned up one day with all the different nice designs, loads of them were dated 60's 70's 80's. There was also a small shop in the market by me that sold sets of stamps with nice animal designs etc, really cheap if I remember right.

I'm the only person iv'e ever known who's even collected them at any point, it must be an extremely small market, only ones that are worth any money are super rare ones that maybe a handful of hardcore collectors will fight over, the penny black is one of those but only if it's in mint condition and unfranked. It's the only rare one i'm aware of.

As for coins, in the early 90's I remember finding a large 1 penny coin in an old manky looking purse in a phonebox, it was dated 1890 something, and still worthless. one of the most random things iv'e ever found though.
