Its recently been my 2 year anniversary of collecting Star Wars stuff again (used to buy loose figures years ago, but now I'm concentrating on MOCs). My lack of focus at the start left me buying things I didn't really need (I'm sure many people have been down this path), but I've sold most of them now and finally know what I want to collect.

A number of things have left me wondering whether I'd been a bit unlucky, or stupid, or whether these things are just run of the mill that hits everyone once in a while:

The bad:
- I got Tonied
- I got hit with a hefty Import Tax bill (did reduce the real amount with the seller, but it was still expensive)
- I've had one postage disaster - AFA MOC with bubble damaged in the post
- I got stung on a badly described Auction (not ebay) and took a loss selling it on

The good
- I made some very good money on an AFA graded MOC (which I spent with TT!)
- I dodged a postage disaster (a trashed box had perfect contents)
- Lots of deals both buying and selling went fine!

On the plus side, I've met and chatted with some interesting people and had a lot of fun along the way!

Any thoughts?

Look at the good, ignore the bad.

You now have experience, and as you say, you now know what you want to collect, so all that experience will come in handy when looking for your Most Wanteds.

Plus you have found the home of SW collecting

Never been Tonied. In fact i've looked recently at a Tonied ESB card and thought it might be worth getting one now while the prices are relatively low. They are a piece of SW collecting history ...saying that, I wouldn't want a collection comprising mostly of TT cards. Feel for the guys who do

Yep we've all made good and bad decisions, that's life. They tend to get better with experience, but occasionally a curve ball comes along.

that sounds perfectly normal to me mate, the bad things tail off the longer you have been collecting, christ i remember when i started and bought some stupid things, lost money, made mistakes ect.

Yep - The good and the bad go hand in hand with the hobby I'm afraid.

In a funny way the bad's are actually goods as we learn (hopefully) from them :)

i suppose it depends on how much you are collecting though, ive gone from loads to almost nothing and just picking up bits ect so i dont tend to make any errors or come across a scammer, if you are investing a lot it probably stands out more.

Hi mate sorry to read about all the bad luck. But great to read you are back and you know what you want to collect
