After many years of debate about whether the vinyl cape jawa ever appeared on a palitoy 12 back card, we now have proof that it did with a sealed example being graded by AFA only a few weeks ago.

The serial number is 14166282 and can be verified on their website if you have an account setup:-

http://www.cgagrading.com/toygrader/Secured/Archives.aspx?sid=14166282

Here are the details:-

Figure Information
Serial Number: 14166282
Date Graded: Mar 14, 2013
Grade 75
Blister: 70
Figure: 90
Card: 80
Year: 1978
Company: PALITOY
Series: STAR WARS
Title: 12 BACK-B
Name: JAWA
Variation: VINYL CAPE

And here is a picture of it, in all it's glory:-

This piece was sent to AFA for grading by Richard Horsley aka Palitoyman on SWFUK.

Many congratulations to Richard on acquiring and grading such an historic and awesome killer piece!

My cardback guide has been updated to reflect this news:-

Wow Jason thanks for the information, great work mate

Do you know about what kenner cards and other foreign cards that figure can be found on ?

I'm just the messenger, all the kudos goes to Richard. Kenner and Toltoys are the 2 other cards that come to mind.

great news Jason - I bet you feel well vindicated. If I owned the only vinyl caped Palitoy jawa I think I would have flown out with it to the AFA rather than trust the postal service - imagine if that had popped through the bubble or been 'opened' by customs :?

Richard is the man for taking the risk of buying it and getting it graded. Hats off to him!

Hi Jason, do you know if the Kenner and Toltoys also only came on 12 back cards ?

Awesome that it has been verified and great photo too. Happy days but I'd imagine it would be frustrating for a completist Pali collector.

Lars, the 12backs where issued on Kenner, Canadian and French Meccano, the Toltoys was actually on an ESB card. Not sure what back it is though.

Here's a link to the TT one; http://theswca.com/images-forei/toltoys-esb-vcjawa.html

I guess that puts the does it/doesn't it exist debate to bed.

Thanks for sharing Jason and congratulations to Richard for both finding it and having the balls to send it to and from the states for grading.

I'd love to hear the story behind it about where it came from. Imagine finding one of these after all this time.

There are 2 ungraded examples I know of.

The Jason Joiner one shown at Elstree last year buttons his coat the other way round so it's not that one:-

The other one originated from Richard Torres many years ago. I haven't seen that one.

The coat placement and gun location doesn't match any other pictures I have of alleged sealed examples.

So we may be looking at a 3rd known example here.

Will need to hear back from Richard if he is going to share identity of who he bought it from.

:)

Well, I didn't think today would be the day I saw a graded Palitoy VCJ!

End to all the debate or the start of even more?

Richard and Jason, thanks for sharing this. Great to see a sealed/graded example now surface.

I'd imagine that this would have also gone through Tom/CIB, correct?

Such great news Jason!! :D

I used to have a VC Jawa as a kid and never doubted it being from a Palitoy card but once I started to read up on it years later I did start to question if a Kenner one had made its way over to the UK back in 78.

The proof is now here and it's as if a million doubter voices all were suddenly silenced!

Well that's made my day although I really wish I'd picked up a sealed one with the top of the bubble sliced open from a few years back..........and I thought the 12 back Chewie was tough to find!
