Hi Guys,

I'm pretty new to collecting and have 4 or 5 figures but I was wondering is there a best way to start a collection?
I would mainly want to start collecting figures but I do have a keen interest in Lightsaber hilts that can be put on show. What's the best things to go for?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go for stuff you like, don't chase absolute perfection unless you have very deep pockets and don't be surprised if in 6 months time you end up on something completely different. Most of all have fun with it :D

My thoughts:

Only buy because you like it; investment is a pointless activity as you'll get bored with your purchases if you don't have a passion for the collection you build and of course prices are at an all time high right now too...

If you buy loose figures, make sure they have the original weapons (no repro) as hunting them down after will take twice as long and cost up to three times as much.

Thanks Guys

I do like some of the older figures I believe I have an old Endor Han Solo and a Lando both with cardboard backs and the plastic casing around them still somewhere knocking about and I do quite like the idea of carrying on with things like that. They probably aren't worth anything but they do look good lol

As always, collect what you enjoy, do lots of research and don't rush.

If you like the older figures, you could start with putting together a full set of those? Or ones you particularly like, or ones from a particular film or scene.

There really are so many options that it's worth spending time on this site, looking at other collections, reading as many threads as you can and ask all the questions you need to.

There's no right way to do it really, just lots of options.

Patience, research and have fun with it.

It's easy to go off in all directions to start with, so take a look at some of the collections on the limelight threads, look through the threads on here, don't be afraid to ask questions.
Buying, then use the FS threads on here, and the trusted sellers, that way you'll avoid the pitfalls of ebay and Repro items, and get pieces you want at great prices.

Like the guys have said, there is no right way, just your way, but enjoy it.

Good luck :D

Thanks guys

I'll have a bit of a read and a think of what I really want. I wouldn't say I necessarily would want a full collection of anything but perhaps collect on a whatever I like the look of basis. That's all I have done so far. Although saying that I do quite like a lot of the Darth Vader figures flying about so perhaps that might be something to think about.
