21 Back ESB DSC - Rare!?

I was just browsing the RS figure archive, and while reading this page noticed that it said the 21 Back DSC on ESB card (before they changed the name to SDC) is listed as 'one of the rarest packaging variations'

I thought this must be some ancient 90s collecting myth like the VCJ or Yak Face being rare, so I looked at eBay completed listings and was surprised to see that indeed it does appear to sell for $4-500

As my luck would have it, I used to own one of these, and it was one of the ones that got stolen. Here's a photo I still have:

It was probably cracked out of the case long ago, but the price sticker is pretty unique, so if anybody sees it on their travels, I'd love to know what happened to the old chap.

Can anyone else think of other figure/cardback combos that most people probably wouldn't realise are rare?

Ive always liked this figure moc. The turquoise colour looks great. Its also fun that they changed the character name but I guess understandable at the same time. I expect there are a few 21 back ESB figures that might be tough to locate. There are certainly some other ESB carded figure combos that are very hard to find.

There was a thread on here a while back I think about that. I remember discussing the rarity of certain 48 A back offerless cards.

Ill keep my eyes peeled for you Edd. You are right about the sticker, its pretty recognisable. Fingers crossed it hasnt been busted from the case AND have the sticker removed. :|

Yeah I saw that thread to & wondered about its rarity, but the change from DSC to SDC make it make sense, always had a soft spot for this figure & cardback myself, but always have a little laugh about it due the the old git on the card with a seemingly fresh faced young cadet type as the figure. :lol:

It was a favourite of mine also - so different from the others.

I have 41 back Stormtrooper (not sure if its A or B) with the display arena offer - I was told that was a toughie to find?

There was a guy on rs selling a load of esb 21 backs, a card I have always liked. Think the Stormy is really tough to find on this card,although I could be wrong. Cool looking moc Edd

How wierd, was just flicking through the Kellerman book and it mentions both the SDC (rare) and Stormie 21 backs (more rare). Doesn't mention your Stormie 41 Chaz

Its a 45 back I have! not a 41 back - anyone know if this a rarity?
