Hi, was thinking that it's been an incredible year what with all the Vectis auctions and incredible pieces that have gone to market this year, albeit at very high prices.

A lot of you have been collecting a lot longer than I so wondered how does this rank as a year for collecting? Will we be looking back in years to come at it? (Are there any more Vectis auctions of Beeches' stuff left?)

Its been one of the biggest years for Palitoy without a doubt. I think the new movie hype pushed demand up a lot, but i really do hope that ship has long sailed now. Its been hard to keep up pricewise for many, and that hurts but its the way of the world. The amounts being talked about and spent now are absolutely bonkers and i really mean that. £16000 for a carded Fett is madness and when pieces of card and plastic go for so much the world truly has gone bonkers. However, people can do whatever they want with their own money :)

Im just glad i have my loose set, and a select few MOC,s etc. Im into comics, advertising etc in a big way aswell and that keeps my collection diverse which keeps me busy ( plus its cheaper)

its been interesting for sure! one of the best for stuff coming out the woodwork

in the UK: frank beeches toy shop old stock and the Palitoy Rep haul!
in france: the box of meccano MOCs! that surfaced in a obscure french auction house. i think it was this year with moc's we didnt know existed

in usa: the kenner engineer 'dewi' lot of pre production figures including DTs galore

This year has been a true vintage of vintage years-when I weigh it all up prob the most spectacular I have ever known regarding Palitoy

Vectis have played a massive part in this getting hold of and putting out on the market pieces which are normally locked away in top collections never to b seen and only dreamed about by us :!: What with factory stock Death Stars, X-Wings die-cast etc, a fair few tough 12&20 backs some really rare 30 backs including a Ben Kenobi & Boba Fett it's been unbelievable

Then there are the private deals that have been done some of which r headline Palitoy news :!:

It will b a year long remembered hopefully with the release of Ep 7 being a great climax :!: :D

I would have thought prices on Palitoy stuff would have dived after a few of the Vectis sales. It seemed to be there were several of everything. I bet most people in the first auction thought those were one offs, but each subsiquent auction revealed another. I have set a limit on how much I will spend on a MOC just so I will never be pissed off at paying over the odds when someone finds a box of 50 of them somewhere haha. Then again, having lots of something doesn't necessarily mean prices will be lower. Every week there seems to be a 12 Back Luke or 21 Back Fett appearing for several thousand.

For me, it has been a vintage year! I have rekindled my love for vintage collecting, redecorated my display room the way I have wanted :D the downside for me is the shock of how much the prices have risen.

It's certainly been a vintage year, although I can't decide if it's been a good year or not.

I got back into collecting, which is great (unless you ask my bank manager) and so much stuff has been made available - which is fantastic.

However, the prices of even common items are insane compared to even 2 years ago. I came back in assuming I'd be able to pick a few pieces up I'd always wanted but a secretive group of millionaires seem to be collecting now and paying incredible prices for everything. I know it sounds like sour grapes, but I just don't get it!

Additionally, lots of the new collectors really don't seem to have a clue, and I believe the move to facebook has just encouraged ignorance - back when I was collecting it was all about discussion forums, theswca, 12back.com, newgroups etc - where you'd find answers to burning questions. The majority(?) of SW chat seems to happen on facebook, but it seems like a glorified SW gumtree to me and all about the sales and very little about discussion or the growth of the hobby.

I'm just glad this forum is still going strong!

It's been a good and bad year for me. Good in the sense that I've added more to my collection this year than in the last 5+ years, it's been really nice to pick up some quality MOCs and start a loose collection. I have certainly had worse years collecting wise as some of you know :)

However I am not happy about the ridiculous, unnecessary price rises on common items, or the influx of self-proclaimed big league collectors and experts that Facebook seems to attract. Some of them could do with a lesson in modesty, there are people with far better collections that don't feel the need to show it off at every opportunity. It's just plain attention seeking, and personally seeing somebody pay 2 grand for a 12 back doesn't impress me, it makes me think they're an idiot.

And of course I'm happy this forum is still as busy as ever, as Facebook has killed many forums off.

The case of 48 Meccano ROTJ MOCs, including original Leia MOC which was thought to have never been released to the market, was auctioned in June 2014 in Paris. Here's an article for those of you guys who read French ;) http://www.toyzmag.com/2014/07/meccano-star-wars-laffaire-du-siecle-passee-inapercue-a-drouot/

i thought it was 2014 ! my how the time flys

Been a great year for me too. With the 'vintage' highlight still to come of curating an exhibition of vintage Star Wars toys on Dec 5th in Canterbury. The fact that we are getting a vintage SW exhibition at a good museum is just one more indicator of how the hobby has grown and become more respected. Tickets on the sideboard for the Force Awakens on Dec 17th are the icing on the cake!

That I am drooling about, more so than TFA. It's also an event that's happening relatively near to where I live for a change. Might have to have a ride on the canal afterwards :D

I can't comment on Vectis etc, havent been following it, sounds like some great items have materialised. I think it will be remembered for a year of rising prices and an influx of new collectors and some fad/jump on the bandwagon collectors. Has been a great year for me. Joined the Forum towards the end of last year and it's changed my hobby hugely. What I've learned, the social interaction and people I've met have been great. Not to mention the way my collection and what I'm buying has changed, so it's one I'll remember for sure.

I think it's been a great year for availability of Palitoy stuff. With the funds, you could have probably completed a 12/20 run with most of the 30a's and afew 30b's for good measure.

As for prices, it makes me laugh a bit. You quickly learn in life that someone always has more money than you - the bigger house, the bigger car, the better job, the bigger collection etc. So who cares really? If someone pays 3x the amount you'd pay for a MOC then just laugh at their stupidity and wait for another chance to get your item. At the end of the day, most of the stuff we're all buying isn't THAT rare that you'll never see another one. If you give up waiting then change focus and move along, it seems sacrilegious to say it, but we're collecting luxuries that we can all live without and most rational people can't see the value in.

Vectis is good stuff. The last 2 I MOCs I won there would have almost certainly gone for 30-50% more on eBay. It simply isn't advertised as well as eBay, and because items like MOCs are limited to front and rear photos, you can't fully gauge their exact condition. Must admit I was worried opening the parcels both times to see the actual condition, but appeared to be pretty lucky. Vectis don't put items and estimates up until nearer the auction, so unless you check regularly you'll miss them. You'll notice people don't mention it on here, as, well, the fewer people who know, the better eh

I also think people don't like the 24% being added to what you win. Yes it's relatively east to work out if you win for £400, then you're paying £500, but that definitely gets people's backs up and causes resentment.
