Hi

I am in the very early stages of attempting to complete a set of Palitoy 12 backs and I am quickly realising how difficult this task is , not just in terms of cost but locating them. Therefore, I am interested un any forum members tales of how long it took them or how they are progressing

Yeah. Was lucky as I stumbled across a guy who had a full set for sale. All the 20 backs as well. Bought the lot in one go.

Hope you got a good deal.

Wow, my wife would divorce me if I did that! Love those 12 backs though!

Not sure what the current price would be on a set of 12. Possibly double or more

It's half the fun tracking them down, some collectors are still attempting to complete certain focuses after 10 years  (not just due to lack of money, but some pieces are almost impossible to find)

Palitoy 12 backs are expensive rather than ultra rare.

Took me a little over a year and a half(from early 2009) for all the 12s & 20s including large head Han virtually all in mint condition at a total cost of around 15K.
Was offered 30K for the set in early 2013 and ended up taking 27K keeping back Luke & Luke X-Wing

This is totally true and something I've always said.

If anything there are more of these around than there were when I was looking in 2002.

The price now comes from lack of availability for sale and majorly increased demand rather than rarity.

Exactly the same with 30 backs, though they still seem to be harder to complete than the first 12/20.

Palitoy junky Did it not break your heart selling your set and do you not feel like attempting to get another set?

Yeh I was sorry to see it go  However the financial reward was pretty awesome :D
One thing that made the deal easier to do was keeping back my Fav MOC of them all, the 12 back Luke and another of my loves the LXW 8) 8)
That made the deal less painful and tbh possible to do but as I say I really miss some of the other beauties that were in the set-examples of Chewy, Ben, Leia and Han that ended up AFA grading triple 85s :(

Do you not fancy building another set?

Also do you know of anyone selling 12 or 20 backs

I would prob not go all out to collect another set as I am currently working on completing an Empire set. If bargain opportunities came my way naturally I would snap up.
At the mo I know not of anyone selling any 12s or 20s. A few 12 backs recently sold on eBay and a lot sold recently on a couple of Vectis auctions. As Gary said, 12 backs do turn up so keep an eye out.

Empire pali'sseem harder to find than 12 and 20's.

If you were selling the 12 backs now how much would you have wanted individually for your AFA85 examples ?
Thanks for all your help

I'm afraid for top graded examples of those figures in today's market you're looking at prices of 2K and above-Ben prob being the most expensive :!:
