This is scary reading from RS

I don't know what Scott's next move is. Personally, I'd at least consult the authorities, but I don't know if that's the option he'll take. Tommy

This is scary reading from RS

In all fairness, they had been friends for years and had done many deals together. After you feel like you know someone, your radar for potential scams is significantly lessened. But as someone on Facebook said, I suppose that's how confidence scams work. :( Tommy

This is scary reading from RS

Just an update: I have banned Adolfo from RebelScum. I gave him 5 days to either refund Scott's money or provide a valid explanation why he couldn't, but Adolfo refused to do that. It is my opinion that he has no intention of ever refunding that money. Tommy

    SWCA Update: US Trademarks

Yeah, I was just going by Ron's write-up on it on the SWCA. :) I honestly don't know. It's advertised as "New!" in the '82 Toy Fair catalog though and I think that's the first time it shows up. Tommy

    SWCA Update: US Trademarks

The INT-4 was released in '82, which is when they filed both the trademark and the patent. For the patents, the filing dates are before the toy is released. That's generally when LFL filed their paperwork. The publication date is just when it was finally approved and published. That can...

    SWCA Update: US Trademarks

So, Chris Georgoulias and I have a bet going on whether or not collectors other than us will care about this. I say "no" and he says "it's not the sort of thing people care about." ;) In any event, we found all the trademark applications for the vintage figures. It's the paperwork that LFL and...

THE VINTAGE REBELLION : Episode 20 LAUNCHED

Very interesting! I'd never heard that before. Makes sense though. Changing the weight of the figure and bubble would affect the balance. I'm honestly not the person to ask about Kenner MOCs though, so I couldn't say. I only have about 7 carded figures total and 3 of them are Kea Moll...

THE VINTAGE REBELLION : Episode 20 LAUNCHED

I can see that, sure. Something like that is at least the result of a conscious decision on the part of the vendor, rather than one of the paint masks just being clogged or the girl who paints the figure's belt buckle not showing up that day. Honestly, I don't think there's a "right" or a...

THE VINTAGE REBELLION : Episode 20 LAUNCHED

Thanks again for having me on, guys! I really had a lot of fun! :) Tommy

Was the droids line ever released in the UK?

They were apparently going to be though. I've got a Canadian Kea Moll quality control sample that's marked "For Palitoy." Tommy

SWCA Blog: Star Wars in the Legal System and the LP logo

Part II of Court Wars is up, covering SW vs BSB, Darth Vader assaulting a woman at a mall, the forgotten screenplay where Indiana Jones visits Peruvian prostitutes and more! http://blog.theswca.com/2014/11/court-wars-episode-ii-justice-strikes.html Tommy

SWCA Blog: Star Wars in the Legal System and the LP logo

No, they'd always planned on doing that in order to get something on the shelves in time for Christmas. While I'm sure worries about another company, like Ideal, coming along and releasing Star Wars-ish figures and stealing Kenner's thunder played a role in that strategy, they'd always planned...

    Plastic Galaxy myth?

Not a problem! Glad we were able to clear up the issue. Never hurts to double-check sources and make sure that everyone has their ducks in a row. I know I recently finished a book describing all the deaths to have ever taken place inside a Disney park, and I sure ran into my fair share of...

    Plastic Galaxy myth?

That's a direct quote from the court case, not my personal opinion or disinformation being perpetuated. Fox initially pitched the SW brand to Ideal (and most certainly other companies) on February 14, 1977. They presented the license in late-February at Toy Fair, and signed the deal with...

SWCA Blog: Star Wars in the Legal System and the LP logo

The Star Wars Collectors Archive Blog just posted a couple new articles, if anyone's interested. I wrote about Star Wars related court cases, such as the Kenner employee caught stealing a case of Luke figures in 1979, LFL suing over an unlicensed Star Wars pornographic film, Kenner's claims...

Archive Blog: Brief History of Online Star Wars Collecting

I'm glad everyone enjoyed the article! :) Yeah, it was designed to be a brief history, not a comprehensive guide, which meant that a lot of really great places for discussion didn't get mentioned, even a few that I really loved. I was trying to keep it concise enough to be easy to follow...
