Kim Simmons Volume 2 ESB 80-82

I see that Volume 3 has just been Kickstarted but I'm stunned at the price hike from the last Volume. I was a backer of Volume 2 for an unsigned copy and was charged $125 including postage to the UK - Volume 3's asking price for an unsigned copy BEFORE postage is a mammoth $225. Add the $50...

Star Wars Palitoy documentary coming to BBC4

This really is great news indeed. An hour plus UK centred version of 'Plastic Empire' with a Palitoy focus will be fantastic. I wonder if any vintage Palitoy TV adverts (beyond the wonderful clips unearthed a few years back by Mr Tree) will feature. Can't wait - two new documentaries, The...

    Were they rare

I remember the fascination I held as a kid for the Palitoy Death Star playset (poring over the details from the cardback it featured on) but never once saw it in the shops in the early to mid 1980s when I was actively seeking out SW related toys. Many years later in mid early 20s (prior to 'The...

Do we know when certain card backs were launched into shops?

This topic is close to my heart as it kickstarts the nostalgia I have for the first few figures I ever bought and decades later purchased as recards for display purposes. They were Luke Bespin , followed by At-At Driver and then Imperial Stormtrooper (Hoth Battle Gear) - purchased in that order...

New Kim Simmons book - bulk order

Hi Richard, I've sent you a message this morning about buying a copy from you, can't make it to FF unfortunately but I'm happy for a copy with creases/folds etc - I'm not fussy in the slightest. Cheers, Rob

    Darth Vader tour photos wanted

Hiya, I may well have located your magazine article and if so then I’m happy to reunite you with your vintage letter. I have looked through about 40 issues of the fortnightly Star Wars comic from mid 83 - 86 and there are four issues of the Marvel published comic from 1984 to 1985 contained...

    Darth Vader tour photos wanted

[-quote="Simply Sci-fi"]It might be deceptive. They've tried to stretch all of the material around to his front, obscuring some of the breastplate. The "actors" all had to be pretty big guys. Agreed. Plenty of Palitoy on show in the pic! I remember the Imperial March playing in the...

How did you store your figures first time round?

Yeah, they took ages to fix in if I remember rightly. I think a lot of parents were suckered into buying that ship as it would double as a handy storage case. My ever practical parents certainly seemed to buy into that idea rather than getting their son the actual ship that he wanted!

Sorry the pictures have all come out upside down, they honestly were right side up when I previewed the post!

How did you store your figures first time round?

Yep, that's where I have stored them up to this point and probably where they'll be returned to but I wanted to see what they'd look like back in the jar for old times sake. When I was a kid I never once saw any of the collector cases and only ever saw the Darth Vader collector case in the toy...

    Darth Vader tour photos wanted

I know I've shared this with you already Craig but here is a snapshot of "Darth Vader" from early 1983 or late 1982 when he visited Scotch Corner toy shop in Kilmarnock. A long ago now but my memories are of waiting in a huge queue outside the shop after closing time, finally making it upstairs...

How did you store your figures first time round?

Another wave of SW toy collecting nostalgia here but also a genuine interest in how we all stored our figures back in the day. I started buying figures in early 1981 but about 3 and a bit years later pretty much gave up on Star Wars mid to late 1984 with the exception of a mail-away Anakin in...
