It certainly looks radio controlled with the battery contact points but the back looks a bit different to the vintage radio controlled R2D2, it doesn't seem to have the on/off switch and it opens all the way up. Does it have the Kenner 1978 date stamp on it? Here's a pic of a vintage one to...

Ebay seems to be full of listings for rare variants or factory or paint app errors, different coloured hands or arms etc, when really they are just knackered.

Phew, that's a relief, I was worried I had payed too much when I bought that other one listed on Ebay for a grand, but seeing the price of this I think I got a bit of a bargain :)

There was also an Empire game, which was actually a conversion kit for the original Star Wars stand up game and cockpit, replacing the game chip and game surrounds rather than bringing out a completely new version. Released in 1985, the year after the Jedi game.

That's one of these, They were not an officially licensed Kenner product, hence being called a "force beam" the advert used to appear on the back of Star Wars Weekly. They are still collectable though, value wise I couldn't really help as it's not something I've ever gone after but I'm sure...
