There are a couple of 47 back 4-LOMs that have turned up, from Australia if memory serves. One was quite recent, turned up on the valuation thread on Rebelscum - the guy had no clue of it's rarity or value and was pleasantly surprised.
Currently single, no kids so I have no-one to answer to and my disposable income is mine alone. My friends at work know what I collect, and will often comment that I'm a "****ing idiot" for spending so much money on old toys.
Kenner famously misjudged the target audience of Alien, they were making lots of money with Star Wars so when Fox announced another Science Fiction film they jumped all over it. Somehow nobody realized until it was too late that Alien was not a family film but the dark, violent horror film we love.
It pretty much mirrors what was happening with Star Wars in the public eye. To most people, Star Wars was 'dead' between 1984 - 1997. For the true fans however, it was the Heir to the Empire book in 1991 that bought Star Wars back, and that's when vintage collecting took off. There were more...
Those stickers I think are from catalogues, possibly Argos. My childhood Threepio cardback has the same sticker (and code), however I bought him from a small toy shop, not mail order. I've only seen them on Threepio though, never any other card.
Walrusman for me also, just the choice of colours - blue, green, Orange - yikes! And it's a poor sculpt. And another vote for Rebel Command Centre, lame background picture and the re-use of the Land of the Jawas base again.
Remember the good old days of mail order, when everything had the disclaimer "Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery"? As has been said, people complain nowadays if they have to wait 2 days. Just a sad reflection of our want it now society.
Inevitable really, I'm guessing most porn magazines are struggling to compete with the Internet these days. Playboy has always had decent articles and interviews so will probably survive, but your basic porn mags days are numbered imo.
Shame really, I think finding a waterlogged porn mag under...
It's the Takara alternative sculpt Vader, May be wrong but I think only they came with the white background. Should have the Takara sticker though, maybe it was carefully peeled off or never applied in the first place? And another fail from AFA - they should of identified it as the alternative...
Also have to mention Dr. Hill from Re-Animator, first he steals Herbert West's formula, then as a headless corpse carrying his own head sexually assaults the Deans daughter, bringing New meaning to the phrase 'Giving head'. :D
Ben Kingsley as Don Logan in Sexy Beast. If you haven't seen it, do so. Just so evil and unpleasant, definitely the kind of person you don't want to meet, ever.
Zero interest in the Merchandise so far. Even if I love the movie I doubt that will change, vintage is my passion. Was pushing my trolly round the Supermarket the other day and passed a large display of TFA stuff, didn't even slow down.
But "It will be very hard to find anything like this anywhere in the World." Sure - unless you search for other 12 back Vaders where you can currently find at least a dozen.
Oh yeah, Zoids were the business. As I love Dinosaurs I was all over them, even though when they first appeared I was a bit old for toys. I bought my Nephew several for Christmas one year, just so I could help him build them. If memory serves they were quite cheap as well.
He's been listing these for what seems like years, I always smile when they pop up again for the umpteenth time. Here's a hint buddy - try lowering your prices. It's the basic rule of selling, if an item doesn't shift then reduce the price till it does.
ROTS does improve with repeated viewings, but PM and AOTC definitely do not. Re-watching them is just twisting the knife further. I actually decided to give AOTC another chance last week, I'd had an impacted wisdom tooth removed and was high on pain killers and the after effects of the...
I've still got around 50 loose POTF2 and Phantom Menace figures in a drawer somewhere, it was sort of fun picking them up but they kept churning them out and I got bored of it all. I did keep the sneak preview Mace Windu in his box, but then so did the rest of the planet.
And that first POTF2...
