    Upcoming Vectis auction/toy shop find

Just my two pennies' worth. I haven't been following the recent Vectis Star Wars auctions that closely but with the recent news of a 'long lost hoard' of factory fresh items being found my curiosity was awoken. Personally I feel that the way Vectis handled the release of information over this...

    MOC figure population

The AFA population report would be interesting but then again it obviously only counts those figures that have been graded by them. There are plenty of rare ungraded figures out there as for example the Palitoy Fett. I wonder if the new owner will get it AFA graded? :)

I've checked AFA and apparently their population report page is down :(

    MOC figure population

Hi all, With the recent sale of the rare Palitoy Boba Fett at Vectis and the mention of there only being four or five MOC examples in existence it got me thinking about what is the known population of rare MOC Star Wars figures? I would love to know what the top five or ten rarest known MOCs...

The damage lighter fluid does on vintage MOC's and packaging

@ Finestcomics. I hear what you are saying but your reference is to paper. With carded SW figures you are dealing with printer's varnished card. I personally believe that this varnish will (and does) protect the integrity of the print and paper mix from liquids such as lighter fluid. Comparing...

The damage lighter fluid does on vintage MOC's and packaging

@ Joe. You make some very interesting and valid points. I personally don't agree with this kind of extensive restoration even if it is disclosed but that just my personal opinion. I do find your comment about AFA not disclosing any restoration work undertaken as a worry. Usually whenever AFA...

The damage lighter fluid does on vintage MOC's and packaging

My personal feeling towards after-factory price stickers etc. is that they distract from the item whether it's a carded figure, comic, die-cast toy etc. I believe that the collectable in question should be in as close as possible condition to as it left the factory. Now I totally understand...

The damage lighter fluid does on vintage MOC's and packaging

Very true but that is collectors for you. Some areas of collecting go way over the top when it comes to the handling and conservation of items. This is why I feel this whole lighter fluid debate is important.

The damage lighter fluid does on vintage MOC's and packaging

@ Finestcomics. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear about the use of lighter fluid on coins. The purpose of copying that reply was to show that lighter fluid (in the experience of the poster) didn't leave any residue and wasn't harmful to paper in the long term. I am also a coin collector. Been...

The damage lighter fluid does on vintage MOC's and packaging

Sorry that my post has reignited (pun not intended) this thread and the animosity but I personally feel that the community should uncover the truth behind the use of products such as lighter fluid and the potential harm to MOC figures if used to remove stickers etc. I have been in the world of...

The damage lighter fluid does on vintage MOC's and packaging

Sorry to post again but I just wanted to make it clear that I am not taking sides or advocating a certain method when it comes to conservation and restoration. As I mentioned above, conservation and restoration can mean varied approaches in different areas of collecting. What might be...

The damage lighter fluid does on vintage MOC's and packaging

When I made my first post I hadn't read most of this thread. Am I correct in thinking that the person who made the original post is primarily into collecting American comics? If so, I find the whole concept of being weary of using something like lighter fluid on carded figures minor in...

The damage lighter fluid does on vintage MOC's and packaging

Just my two pennies' worth. As far as I'm aware lighter fluid evaporates very, very quickly and leaves no residue so the period for potential damage is immediate. You would notice any damage upon application and I would imagine that there is no 'ticking time bomb' due to the full evaporation. I...

    Slave 1 factory sample

Thanks Joe for posting the pic. I trawled eBay when Spoons mentioned it but couldn't find it. Does look like they forgot the text originally and stuck stickers over to amend. Cool spot on the Jabba's Dungeon error.

    Slave 1 factory sample

Thanks for the information, much appreciated. The sticker is clear so the background can be seen through it. Looks like there was no printing in that place on the card back.
