It's possible he was toasted like a marshmallow at some point but I think this figure could actually be a production error - a short shot or short pour, when not enough plastic is injected into the mould and so the figure isn't fully formed. You can see the lack of detail on the torso.

Plastic lasts a long, long time and the figure and bubbles should exist longer much longer than the cardboard cardback.

There is a problem that can happen very easily to anyone that collects graded. You open up a secondary stream, you're collecting figures but now you're also collecting the stickers from the grading company. Each object in your collection is now two things - it's a Stormtrooper AND it's an AFA85...
