Hello,
I recently picked up a couple of what I believe are Palitoy Quality Control samples. I am by no means a pre-production/QC expert, let alone a Palitoy/Tri-Logo expert, but they seem legit to me. It's a shame most of the stickers have been removed.

The Ree-Yees is a fully sealed MOC with some wear to the card as seen and some dents in the bubble. I think I see the date of April 30th written in ink on the QC sticker to the right. The bubble has popped off of C-3PO so it is loose with the cardback and bubble. The C-3PO is a ROTJ 45 back and Ree-Yees a Tri 79 back.

I've done some research and from what I can tell Palitoy QC samples are pretty rare in any condition based on what little info I found online. Anyone care to weigh in on the rarity of these? Have there been any other recent sales that I could compare these to?

Much appreciated.
Chris

I recognize the stickers. I have only seen those green stickers applied to kenner rotj era cards but you may be right and these could be legit. Just such a shame that someone had a really good go at removing the stickers. If they turn out to be legit then the fact that that the stickers are picked apart will have a big impact on the price sadly . Joe may be the man to ask here.

P.s. in terms of rarity, if they're legit (which I believe they are) then they are rare. That said , the condition of the stickers themselves means they prob aren't worth a fortune. A fun addition for a character focus though.

Defo Palitoy 'sign off' stickers.

I have attached my Palitoy action force QC MOC for comparison.

Very cool pieces! I don't necessarily agree that they aren't valuable, when it comes to ultra rare stuff (eg Uzay MOCs or Vlixx) people can't be fussy about condition, and they still sell for huge amounts.

Yep these are exactly what you think they are :)

As far as value goes, I actually think the damage to the stickers greatly impacts their worth for most people because the value is all in the stickers (Curse whoever tried to take them off!).

These would have gone up in value recently but if it helps, a couple of years ago the sealed figures with intact stickers seemed to be selling for anywhere from £350-800 (depending on character) while the cardbacks with intact stickers went for peanuts (they were listed first and caught people by surprise). Some weeks back, one of the cardbacks that originally sold for something silly like £6 went for over £75 (quite a jump!)..but the stickers were almost perfect.

I think most people in the market for one of these that aren't tied to a specific character for a focus would probably hold out for one in better condition but if someone needed one for their focus then they'd obviously have to be more accepting of the condition. I'd be happy with an 8D8 Trilogo in the same condition as that Ree Yees for example because it would probably be the only one out there but I can see other people passing on it so it's all down to the individual and how much they "need" them.

Thanks everyone for your quick input and confirmation that these are indeed legit QC samples.

I'm really not into pre-production items or QC samples as I don't have the deep pockets or patience that requires. :) I would like to move these to a pre-production or character focus collector who will appreciate them more than I do. What do you think a fair value on each is considering their condition? I'd be happy if I could sell or trade these to get something that is more my speed.

Chris

I'd say maybe £50-80 each. The more desirable character of the two seems to have suffered the worst which is unfortunate :( If the threepio had still been sealed I could have seen it going over £100.

They've still got value, you've just got to find the right person/collection.

I saw one of these on a Han Bespin cardback on eBay a couple of months ago - got outbid around the 200GBP mark at the last minute from memory but that one in much better shape

These would be nice additions for a cardback collector I am sure but as the guys have said, the damage does bring down the price a lot so I think Joe's prices are about right
