Yeah my first reaction to this is over-saturation. I'm really looking forward to EP7 and even the Rogue One film will be a good stand-alone filler.

Messing about with major character origins has been done to death though - X-Men Origins, Star Trek reboot etc and don't forget we had the prequels and Clone Wars cartoons. The films should be going forward in chronology not stepping back again. The Star Wars Rebels cartoon is doing a fine job of this itself, almost like a sideline project without it being too serious.

Before long we'll get an alternate timeline story anyway and all this will mean nothing!

James Cameron's quote when asked about working in the Terminator universe again is very true for all the great film franchises really -
"the soup's kind of been pissed in"

I don't see the problem here, if your not interested then don't go to the cinema to watch it. The thing is it will see huge returns at the box office, because it's what the majority of fans want to see. :)

Uh oh, I think Disney are in danger of over-doing it now :?

It's Disney Ed, expect the franchise to get milked to DEATH. 8) Disney will probably sour Star Wars for a lot of us in the end. ****, I'm already cringing at most things Star Wars these days outside of the forum.

Look at the release schedule for the Marvel films, that is probably what we will get with Star Wars. If anything Disney know how to milk a cash cow. Lets just pray we don't get a glut of Direct to DVD efforts that Disney are also renowned for.

In the same way it was a mistake to show how Anakin became Vader, I fear this route will be repeated here.

Do we really need to know Solo's back story? Aren't we in danger of completely eradicating all the myth and magic from what makes Star Wars great? That it fires our imagination, and that is 10 times more powerful than anything you'll ever put on screen.

I say it's time to bring new characters to the fore, and discover new adventures.

as a kid, 3 years between films seemed like a lifetime. I'm in the more category. bring them on..

As for marvel films, I love them too. Considering I was a fan of fantastic 4, hulk and spidey when growing up, the last 15 years has been awesome. Whilst none will trouble the oscar winners, they are reasonably well made and are very watchable building up a big linked storyline, whilst maintaining an individual story. Its comic book fun at its best.

We already know everything single thing we need to know about Han Solo within the first five minutes of meeting him. What's the point of the movie other than cash?

I really hate prequels of any kind - if a film is successful enough to have a prequel it obviously doesn't need one. Characters even more so. Anything extra we learn about these iconic characters weakens them.

That's exactly it - film makers these days do not understand the value of "less is more." I don't want to SEE Han Solo at high school or on dates, I want to imagine it. Do they really think people are so stupid these days that everything has to be written/seen?

Exactly. They are saturating it now. Part of the legend of Star Wars is that children could imagine, and play their own ideas out but more of these movies will suck the life out of Star Wars.As ive said many times, the real storyline was in 1-6. however bad the PT were they linked in to the OT.

Disney are destroying Star Wars, not enriching it.

Im so glad that i dont feel the lure of anything linked to the future shite-now,wheres my Episode 1 collection:)

Same here, i love a good Marvel film, but they are apparently remaking Spiderman AGAIN!! WTF?

Not Marvel related but Batman v Superman etc??? why??? they are swaying the ideas and innocence of these characters to people, especially kids.

These new SW films are being made for the wrong reason entirely and Disney are doing more damage than good. Yes, Lucas made the originals and PT for money but they were born out of his own mind and when ANH hit the flicks in the 70,s the world was changed forever-bleeding it dry will tarnish it.

Star Wars overload. They really need to be careful with the films they release and not go for quantity over quality, otherwise there will be a time when everyone will be saying "oh god not another ****ing Star Wars film.." although..that might work to OUR advantage
Unfortunately I think people are already going to start saying oh no, not another ****ing Star wars film! That time is here. Agree with a lot of what's been said, nothing new is ever going to be as good as the originals and they are probably going to ruin it by showing us **** we don't need to see. It's all about money, they'll keep making film after film after film as long as the moola keeps rolling in. They don't give a **** about respect for the SW universe or the characters. It's a business with a marketing department, what can we make that will bring millions to the cimema, oh ok we'll make that then

Nothing can ever ruin the origional triology for me. Just glad their's new stuff in the pipe line and I'm willing to at least hold judgement until I've seen them. :)

I really think the prequels should no longer be cannon, certainly messed the brand up but really looking forward to the force awakens as to me its a real part of star wars .

All these other films will just be like stories i don't give a **** about though.
