Rebel Commando MOC question

Hello all,
Like a lot of people on here, my focus is Palitoy MOC and the reason I first started this is because I remember the Palitoy cards from when I was a kid and wanted to own what I would have bought at the time (I'm English despite the Dutch flag in my avatar). Of course I soon discovered that I could just as easily have bought Kenner cards when I was a youngster, and looking at my orange snake Yoda I´m pretty sure I did.
One thing I remember very clearly is that when I bought the Rebel Commando figure, the bubble came with a backing tray, moulded to the shape of the figure (with the backpack), and I remember because I cut the edges off of the bubble and used it and the backing tray for carbonite for Han - pre last 15 of course.
These days I'm still on the lookout for a Palitoy Rebel Commando, but none of the ones I see for sale have the backing tray, only the Kenner ones do - at least as far as I can tell.

Does anyone know if there was a Palitoy version with this tray, or was it the case that I actually bought a Kenner one back in the day?
Thanks in advance

Jason

Only the Kenner version of the RC has an inner tray for the figure, you definitely had one of those nasty American imports

Ahem...

That's not entirely true, Joe. ;)

Here's one of my Palitoy's. I think it's a 65C (I'll have to check at home later).

Interesting, thanks guys.
I'm guesing then that if there is a Palitoy variation that it's kind of rare? RebelChris, did you get this on purpose for the tray, or because it was Palitoy?
Joe, do you know if all Kenners had the tray?

Maybe I'll have to track down both :)

Here is my commando. No tray on this guy either. Palitoy card, but I picked it up in Japan.

Oh my bad, I guess I should have paid more attention to all of those RC's in your limelights Chris

Must be quite hard to track down a Palitoy with the tray, I couldn't remember ever seeing one!

Nah, I don't think they are that hard to find. Just takes some patience. I was looking at all of my Palitoy RC's and it seems like the trays are matched up with the Kenner/Palitoy bubble instead of the Trilogo bubble.

Zipy - I picked that one up because of the bubble/cardback combo. And if you look on a certain auction site, there is an inner tray Palitoy RC available right now. If you need help with it, let me know, I'd gladly forward it on. ;) Also, I think most Kenner's have the inner tray at least starting around the ROTJ time period. I'd be willing to beat you kind find most of the figures with an inner tray on a Jedi cardback.

Tsk, tsk, Joe... you should know better!

Note that the tray bubble is made in China. There we a few factories in and around Hong Kong producing 65c rebel commandos. I would imagine they used whatever bubbles they could get hold of, hence the rarity of the tray bubble.

I'm not following your meaning, Jason. Are you saying that all inner tray's originate from China?

The reason I ask is that I own both a 65C and 65A with inner tray and I've seen them on Made in China and Made in Hong Kong cardbacks. So if you are saying they originated from China, then shipped to Hong Kong to be placed on Made in Hong Kong cardbacks, then I could possibly see that. But I don't know if you can say that for certain.

My opinion is they follow the bubble type. I've seen them more prevalently with the Kenner/Palitoy bubble, grant it that's not always the case, but it seems odds on favorite.

Hi Guys, great thread. It makes more sense IMO the other way round, china and Macau share COOs with Kader and they both came after I believe, some of these figures can also be found in HK baggies as well as China and Macau bags, ie no COO china Jawa and Macau Hoth trooper and Leia Boussh. it's more likely Kader where the original producers and China and Macau had molds cloned, same for the trays/bubbles?? there's also a Palitoy china card on Jason's site with the HG factory code which is why I think there conected. Where these codes so Kader could keep track of what came from where once they had more than one factory making/packing figures for them??

Actually I shouldn't have said Kader but one of the other HK factories, Kader would be the figures found in SW-a Baggies like Luke FB with 2 line COO not 3 line.
