There are two Palitoy VCJ’s for sale this month and one in May, so definitely looks like some collectors are liquidating, could be cost of living or could be the market is dropping, I agree with Edd it is probably the latter.
The condition of the two items were similar if you were to grade them probably a 70 or 75 grade, so pointless grading them as any grades below 80 detract from the value. The VCJ is very desirable but they are nowhere near as rare as they used to be, one was sold with Vectis in 2017, two with...
Palitoy VCJ sold for 15K today at Excalibur which is low as all previous ones have sold for over 20 I believe. This is an iconic piece which 15 years ago was thought not to exist, now they predict there to be between 10-15 so not that rare in Palitoy terms but still very desirable. If Grail...
We all have different experiences in this hobby, I have met some great, very knowledgable people and some difficult ones, the most knowledgable ones all came from this forum which I believe Edd started so hats off to him! But it’s important to remember we all have our own collecting aspirations...
When I first joined the forum - before all the irritating adds - I put up a post asking about 41 back rarity, I got lots of responses to the post but none that answered the question as Secrecy is at the heart of Palitoy collecting. I understand why as if you highlight something is extremely rare...
I think it’s difficult to compare VSW to other collectibles as it’s easy to find out what a Hulk 181 (2nd Appearance of Wolverine) is worth you just have to subscribe to GPA or Go Collect, you can even find out how many exist in different grades. If I wanted to know how many 300 SL Gullwings or...
Wow the only 41 Back PD & DSD in existence, bummer if you are a PD or DSD focus collector, congratulations on those pick ups. 45A 2-1B I think the last one sold at auction for 9K including commission so another great pick up! What about the 41 Back Aliens any luck with those?
The biggest threat to Vintage Collecting is deterioration in the pieces. If you take a MOC then there are more things to go wrong with it than other collecting genre’s like comics or trading cards, take vintage POTF cards many have been stored in dark dry conditions and still the bubbles have...
I believe there were a few U Graders on this site, maybe they still have the cardbacks of the MOC’s they slaughtered, probably in very good condition too!
I don’t see Vintage MOC’s being a good long term investment as there are too many things to go wrong with them overtime like cracked bubbles, lifting bubbles and discoloured bubbles which reduce their value. If you are looking for an easier collectible investment with less things to go wrong...
Still collecting but have not bought anything in nearly year due to the rarity of the stuff I collect, it either doesn’t exist or in very low numbers and almost never comes up for sale. I achieved my goal in 2022 to replace everything I sold in 2004 which took me five years, so I guess anything...
Restoration is acceptable in cars especially in vintage and classics In fact it would be difficult to get into Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance without it! Where as Comics Restoration will devalue it considerably. Star Wars is full of contradictions as some collectors don’t like you using...
I thought condition was always popular hence the success of the TT sales. Most collectors have no clue of rarity and the community clam up when you ask questions about it so it makes sense to focus on condition!
