As ive just moved im unable to find mine at the minute but ill post a pic asap. As i said before, i had 3 emptys from an Ewok Village box a feq years ago.

Its worrying to think that a piece of tape and a label is what people pay rediculous amounts for. I intend on shoving some figures in mine and displaying it.

This hobby is becoming even worse of a minefield than it is already. Repro MOCs and the like are quite easily spotted but it looks as though someone saw the popularity of these and had a pop. Ive seen some worrying figure combos in these, and there were some that were too good to be true i suppose.

Credit to Laurence for this great thread.

Lionel, have I stirred the collecting bug back into you buddy after contacting you for the information? If that is the case then at least something good has come from this research.

Laurence you sure did mate , its great being back in the hunt again so thanks for getting touch ! , childhood memories of picking mocs off the shelves and that feeling of whats in the post today ...great fun , but on a serious note now that i am a few short weeks into collecting a loose complete run , it appears that fakers are making this a dangerous hobby to be in ESP on these higher end multipacks and single baggies , ebay is full of them and new collectors are getting conned , if any of the mods are reading this any chance of getting this thread pinned ?

Be interested in hearing what Jeff has to say about it all, keep us posted Laurence

Surprised this has not had more interest tbh, would of thought folk would be keen on getting to the bottom of this and finding out where these are coming from :?:

Though I am personally gutted to read and find out the 8 pack that I love dearly is suspect or to be honest, fake, I commend you on this thread and research. Top notch and a benefit to the hobby. Thank you..

Cheers Mike for directing me to here. It is nice to see this thread, especially as I am lucky enough to still have my childhood 99p pack :)

Laurence, I finally got round to reading this and I think your research is exceptional and this has to be one of the, if not the best, post on SWFUK in all the years of going. Your research is really well laid out, detailed and convincing with no hint of bias. There is still a lot of debate with Toni stuff, I see no debate here.

As such when I got to your final point above I laughed out loud

Well done mate, if there was a SW collecting annual award you'd have my vote.

The amount of investigating and comparisons you have provided is quite something, I am thinking you would be great in a forensics position :D

I don't think I have a steady enough hand for forensics Vince.

I am surprised you have not had many questions relating to this post as of yet, maybe many have just not read it as of yet.

In response to your question from your comment regarding having not had many questions relating to this post as of yet, are you referring to collectors asking questions about their packs that may have Suspect packs in their collections.
19 Palitoy packs and 2 Suspect packs were identified from 21 packs located on the main UK sources of the Forum, Vectis & Echo. Maybe this is why questions have not been asked as the UK identified items seem largely unaffected.

With the suspect packs, have they been traced back to a certain source? have they come from one? I know Bill boy had a few of these and he was a wealth of Palitoy knowledge before he went rogue and made the fake prototype baggies and died several times etc lol. Do these suspect packs trace back to him or someone else? I sure I am not the only person wondering this?

Regarding the source of the packs I will detail the sources identified. I have been conscious of posting this data for several reasons.

One of the reasons for this is that the comparisons from the research have been able to be considered in an unbiased manner. The research seems to have been well received with no collector questioning the comparisons.

Another reason is that the source of a number of the Suspect packs trace back to one source. Unfortunately I have not yet been able to make direct contact with the source in order to establish the source further back and no accusations or allegations are being made but sharing the findings of the research that was documented.

What also needs to be considered is that these packs have been noticed for sale at events such as NEC & LFCC through other vendors as mentioned on the link below.

I take it the above included in the investigation is not including Kev's packs posted earlier in this post?

So not surprised these along with other SW era mailers and all the baggies originate from Jeff. Boy he has a lot to answer for.

Cheers

Well if we had the annual awards that we used to have as a community (they were fun times), i'd say that you would be without doubt the winner of "The most in depth, informative and impressive research project ever!"

Well done Laurence, clearly a well considered and constructed presentation.
I've always had my doubts about stuff like this, comparing different labels and saying "they're different, so one has to be fake" as stuff like this wouldn't of had any QC back then. It would have been a case of; do it quick, do it cheap, "oh Marge we've run out of bags" "ok Ethel, i'll use these ones instead, no will will mind" etc. That said, your comparisons are overwhelming and i'm swayed. I think you've nailed it.

I'm really gutted for the UK as we've had more than our fair share of scandals: TT, Baggiegate and now this!

Once again Laurence, well done mate.

To quote a crazy old wizard "Rest easy son, you've had a busy day"

Hi

I'm hoping to pick your collective brains... Does anyone remember exactly when these were released in Woolworths? I vividly remember buying a few of them in the summer school hols in Skegness and getting figures I'd long needed as a child... but can't place the exact year. I think it must be '86, '87 or '88?

Thanks,
Geoff.

My Dad got mine Christmas Eve 1986 and I can say this with pretty much 100% certainty. My Dad tells the story how he was doing some last minute shopping Christmas Eve and he popped into Woolworths to see what they had. The staff were stacking the shelves ready for the Boxing Day sales and their was a load of Woolworths 8 packs and 99p special buy vehicles. He remembers searching for the 8 pack which had the best selection for what I needed.

I'm certain it was Christmas 86, because Christmas 85 I got the AT-AT and Christmas 87 a Jet Hopper Radio Controlled car.

I can't say they were not around before this but it was certainly the first time my Dad found them. :)

I believe most of them originated from Reading in around 2015 ;)

Lol Reading

1986 sounds correct to me as my sister got me one on Boxing Day that year, only reason I remember is because it's the nicest thing she ever did for me, pretty sure she went back to beating me up the next day

It's crazy that these were just sitting around on clearance shelves for 99p. 99p for eight figures! Talk about trying to shift stock of a dying toy line. Think what they're worth now. Also that's only equivalent to £2.85 now. Now they want £15 for a shitty modern 2 pack.

I've got a question for the multipack baggie experts.. Frank 8) Were the figures packed in these completely random character combinations or are there multiples of known combinations?? Just curious as to whether they thought - we must have some goodies, baddies, couple of major characters etc.
