I've seen some inconsistent grading before, but this takes the biscuit. Can anybody explain to me how this got an 80? I would have thought 60 max in that condition. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the value or the seller

There is no valid reason. It's a farce! Fair enough if you like grading, but it boggles the mind why folk don't use another company. At least it would be a lesser evil. Just break em all out and put them in a nice GW Acrylic case. A company more deserving of our cash. :D

That is a ridiculous grade I would have said 70 max. Maybe if you send a $50 note with your submission this is what you get.

Whomever pays $195 for a Chief Chirpa needs their head checked and deserves to be ripped off.

This is why grading is a no for me, it's someone's opinion

My favourite colour is red, if a poll was done from a million people said there favourite colour was blue, would I change my fav colour...no...but would the general consensus be that blue is the most popular colour...yes, given the poll results

If people want to grade that's ok with me if it floats their boat, I would not criticise them for that, because tgats fine for them.

If you don't ageee with grading then don't grade if you do then grade, each to their own.

Is a given grade in reference to other *like items*? In this case, if there a precious few other graded examples of a glasslite ATL maybe this is the best they have ever seen, hence giving an 80. I'm sure this is not the case, just being imaginative for how an 80 could be assigned to this.

Whilst I in no way want to condone Erics behaviour or the ridiculous prices he charges and agree this has probably been over graded, it is wrapped in cellophane which I think is making it look a lot worse than it actually is. If you look closely there is a small crease in the box but the cellophane is reflecting and making the card look more beaten up than it actually is. Either way the price tag is more ridiculous than the grade IMO.

Totally agree, utter bollocks (as we all know grading is). Grades mean nothing to me anyway but this is squashed, bent and creased as well as a few other small issues, price label etc. Look at this Rebo Band, same grade. Just one of the first things that came up doing a quick search, looks almost pristine except for a little edgewear, way better condition. It's a joke.

Edd, They grade foreign stuff on a different scale to Palitoy and Kenner. I'm not sure of the ins and outs of it, but as someone who has owned a lot of graded Kenner MOC's and a fair few Harbert/Takara/LL/Glasslite MOC's the difference is noticeable. Take two MOC's with identical issues, one Kenner and (say) one Glasslite and submit them, the foreign one will get a higher grade.
I don't know if it's because of the relative rarity of the foreign stuff or not, but the fact foreign stuff grades higher has been going on for years. Certainly way back when I was actively buying, and that's 8-10 years ago.

I would say the fact it was submitted by someone who gives them a lot of business (apparently) would be of lesser consideration than the fact the item in question is Glasslite.

And, "yes" I agree that should be a 70 tops.

Pure speculation here ...

As previously said, if a Kenner with issues got a 70 and a Gaslight or Takara with SAME issues got an 80, would it be due to the relative quality of materials used to produce the items?

As in, were Kenner / Palitoy items have been better made using stronger more durable materials? , so to find a Kenner in a certain condition would be one thing, but a Gaslight or Takara in similar condition would be considered a much better example, considering the lower longevity and lesser durability of the material used to make it ?
