I've not seen any of the reproduction boxes up close myself, but there are plenty of posts on this Forum from people who have, and they confirm the quality of the repros really isn't all that great. They're not a patch on the original lithographed boxes, and also seem to be simply printed paper stuck onto card. As such, it should be very easy to distinguish between a real box and a repro, so if you are considering selling your item, don't let these repro efforts put you off.

And I've just spotted that the post I replied to is from September :). Oh well, my response is still accurate enough, if a little late!

That really is an amazing MOC, shame there's a slight bubble crush in the stem but someone could get a real bargain here. I love how shiny the cape is as well on this example, this must add some extra value to it as you tend to only see this on repro ones

Ian

I was going to say nice shine, shame the card hasn't the same. And the colour of the cape... what a match.

At the end of the day if someone's got that much to spend on a MOC then surely they'll know what to look out for, unless of course, it's a shilling situation. :)

I thought I'd make the seller's day by sending them this message (complete with American spellings, just in case proper English is too confusing for him ;-)):

Hi,

In the spirit of trying to do you a favor, let me be as clear as I can. You know as well as I do that this is a reproduction card, and NOT a vintage original. The winning bidder is going to be furious with you when you send him this cheap and nasty fake, so why don't you do the honorable thing and cancel the listing before you have to pay them their money back and you receive well-earned negative feedback?

The hole punch is wrong, the card print quality is wrong, the footer is wrong, the blister is wrong, the gun is repro and therefore wrong, and above all, the 'vinyl' cape is laughably poor and of course therefore, very, VERY wrong. Make no mistake, this card is a FAKE.

And in the unlikely event that you don't believe what I have just said, perhaps you will remember this email once you hear back from the extremely unhappy winning bidder of this auction.

Thank you.

:-D

You can say what you want but I know it's real and I'm not pulling my listing (nice one by the way!) :D

I hope you're talking about the seller! ;-)

thought that was obvious
It was indeed, my friend :). Sorry, I couldn't resist going for the comedy response. I'm not really that thick... honest!

Now I also have news! The seller responded to my email with this prize piece of bullshit:

Hmmm... do we believe him?

Quite! Pass it on to himself perhaps? Or is he trying to convince me that he'll pass the info on to the winning bidder?... Yeah, right!

Regardless, hopefully the seller will get his comeuppance in the form of having to refund the winner's money and receiving some nice negative feedback :-D

Everybody please beware of this conman on eBay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/admay-7580/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

The user is someone called 'admay-7580' (amazingly he has poor feedback!) and he has numerous expensive fake vintage figures for sale, including:

Hollow tubes Tusken Raider (very clearly fake):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-...Tubes-Original-Cape-No-Rips-Mint/133556412072

Lili Ledy Rebel Soldier with dark boots (no such figure exists. This one is clearly custom painted):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-...wn-Boots-1980-HK-Excellent-Paint/133556416499

Lili Ledy Black Hood Klaatu Skiff (custom painted black hood. The LL version has much darker green skin and lighter brown shoulders):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lili-Led...ck-Hood-LFL-1983-Mint-Condition-/133551211514

Lili Ledy Stormtrooper (custom painted):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-Lili-Ledy-Stormtrooper-1977/133551228424

Lili Ledy Leia Bespin (highly doubtful!):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAR-WARS-LILI-LEDY-PRINCESS-LEIA-EXCELLENT-BESPIN-GOWN-1980/133551219352

Lili Ledy Leia Bespin Blonde Hair (bullshit! Should be a 4-line COO, and it's also clearly custom painted):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lili-Led...are-Light-Brown-Blonde-Hair-Mint/133555516561

Lili Ledy Teebo (no it isn't):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-War...es-Variant-Taiwan-1984-UKG-80-85/133540472656

I suspect more of his so-called Lili Ledy figures are also bullshit. The seller is either an utter ignoramus (unlikely given how readily he 'identifies' apparently rare LL figures), or else is (or knows somebody who is) clearly handy with a paintbrush, and doesn't mind conning unsuspecting vintage collectors out of their hard-earned cash!

Sadly, he has already sold numerous fake figures, looking at his 'Sold' listings, including multiples of the same fake figures, such as his piss-poor hollow tubes Tusken Raiders. A lot of inexperienced or newbie collectors are being ripped off by this asshole, so beware!

I was watching that Rebel Soldier last week, it sold for 99p plus £10 postage. This guy has flipped it.

Looking on sold listings it seems another one has sold as well......
