Hey fellas thought I'd share some progress pics of a display cabinet I'm building for my loose collection. It's designed with shallow shelves to hold all loose figures as well as deeper shelves for my 12 back display stand and Jabba with throne, Wampa, Taun Taun and Dewback.

I'll update with more pics as it nears completion.

Door cut and rebated to fit perspex, hinges installed and everything's been sanded in preparation for painting.

Undercoat done and gloss coat applied to inside, ready for top coat to the door and outside of cabinet, sucks waiting for paint to dry!!

Black paint done just need to wait for it to harden before I can fit the perspex and the door to the cabinet.

Mounting of the hidden brackets which allows the cabinet to sit flush with the wall with no visible fixings

Then just a matter of filling it, the fun part!

And here is the Timber Cut list and some basic construction plans, if anyone has any questions or would prefer a copy as a PDF please feel free to PM me anytime and I'll email them to you.

All measurements are in Millimeters, I can't for the life of me work out the conversion to inches

This is for the timber mounting bracket for a flush mount to the wall.

Looking good mate! I like the idea of having different depth shelves to accommodate loose + then larger stuff. Not very good at that kind of thing me, flat pack is about my level, wouldn't know where to start from scratch!

Hi Ryan, it looks great, would love to see an update of that cabinet when you have worked some more on it. I think it will be a great cabinet when you are done :D

I have a similar set up for my room - narrow shelves for loose figures and moc and deeper for vehicles but they were bought out of Argos (flat pack) so really impressed with you making your own Ryan. I guessing you'll get even more enjoyment out of your display knowing you did it all yourself plus it'll be exactly how you want it - well done pal but I thought you artistic guys weren't meant to be good with their hands :)

So you taking orders for personalised drawings and custom displays - pick up only :D

Cheers fellas,

Yeah in another life I worked in a timber room and upholstery so I managed to retain some of the skills I learnt at that time, only just.

I've been looking for an excuse to make something and get my fat arse out of the office chair so this was perfect.

 Colin, unfortunately I was never your stereotypical over sexed and underpaid university degree artist type mate, had to earn a labour orientated living like the rest.

Update pic added, all ready for painting but I won't be doing it tomorrow as it's going to nudge 40 degrees here and I'll be ****ed if I'm stepping foot outside for anything

Some great new pictures ryan, maybe you should produce some more of them and sell them to other collectors

I'm with Joe, this sort of thing is beyond me - but it looks amazing nd the beauty of customizing it is that you can have it exactly how you want it - looking forward to seeing it filled

Looking good. I'm planning on making one sometime in the summer, i'm interested in how you decide to finish it off, ie paint wise.

I'd like to incorporate logos into mine for my different collections, Kenner/Lili Ledy/Top Toys etc...

 sorry fellas postage would be a killer. If I get time I'll try to put together a set of instructions including a timber cut list. You'll find most cabinet makers are fine with cutting all of the timber for you then all you'll need to do is follow the instructions to put it together. Believe me the toughest part of making this is cutting the timber and making sure it's all been square.

Total cost so far has been just under $150 including sundry items like hinges and screws, the single most expensive item was the perspex sheet @ $50. You'll have to pay the cabinet maker a fee to do the cutting and routing a few grooves and rebates but the time and frustration it would save you would be well worth it.

If anyone's interested in a set of plans then I'll put something together inc illustrations  this will be free of course to all SWFUK members.

I should add that I am in no way a pro at cabinet making and a professional would no doubt have a much better way of making this but it's a nice simple design that was easy on my brain.

Cheers Ryan

Cool cabinet. Like the idea of different shelve height.
Thinking of building one myself but probrably wouldn't come out as nice as yours lol.
Can't wait to see the final piece.

Thanks for sharing

This looks great! So many other cabinets out there have that 'almost but not quite' feel about them. What better antidote than to build your own?! Can't wait to see it hung & filled up!
