Hi guys, can I just get an opinion on this Palitoy 12 back card as to whether it's legit or not. I believe it is - the look, feel and print under a magnifying glass check out but I've never had a Palitoy 12 back card in hand. No what to look for with the punch etc on a Kenner but not Palitoy. Cheers, Jay

It looks legit to me from a cardstock/print quality perspective. But I'd leave the final say so to the Palitoy experts.

Looks fine, obviously it's difficult with a picture, but looking at it it looks Kosher , print & logo, looking at the back of the card, it has that dull aged look, the repro s look more blurry and colours look off, so for me this looks fine nice card :)

Looking at the hole punch area it looks all good to me and the bubble must have not been attached right at the factory for the bubble to come off so cleanly. i do have a Palitoy 20 back Walrus Man that was a bubble fail so it could have happened to a 12 back.

Maybe TT did get some of these card backs in his lot but I'd say the card back is legit at least.

Intresting...
Did Palitoy punch the hole in different places, even on the same cards?
As my C3PO is in a different place.

A quick Google suggests they do, though more come up with your placement

I'm really surprised that there is more than one punch location.
I wonder why?

Seems to be a common placement for the punch. The punch also changes in shape and size. Here's a graded Sandperson. And the Jawa is from theswca.com - As to why, I have no idea...

Here's my C3PO from the front, definitely more central.

Hi Jay,

Your Threepio card looks fine to me. The holepunch, card cut, card sheen (glossy on the front, matte on the reverse), and stress lines (as seen on the reverse) caused where the bubble was attached, all look completely genuine, from what I can see. Yes, the bubble certainly came off exceptionally cleanly, but that is also perfectly possible.

The position of the holepunch was sometimes altered to make the figures hang straighter on the pegs, as Mr Palitoy's excellent website confirms using the Jawa as an example (https://www.freewebs.com/mrpalitoy/sw12bcardback.htm), so I see no reason why other figures might not have undergone the same treatment.

Here's a close-up of the top of mine. It seems to have a slightly different holepunch placement to those already shown above, however the overall cut of the card can shift the holepunch position out by a few mm, depending on how centrally the die cut the card. I reckon mine is the same holepunch position as yours, but your card has been cut right on the outer edge of the right-hand racetrack, shifting your holepunch further to the left than mine:

It's ok mate, no red flags that jump out to me. The punch position can vary on each MOC, just part of the factory process I guess. Look at the back of a number of 12&20 backs, the race track can b to the right or left or bang on dead centre if ur lucky :)

Would these differences be classed as "variants"?

Thanks for the further input guys. I was pretty confident with it but just wanted some expertise thrown into the mix. Alarm bells sometimes ring when you get such a good quality card back with little damage from the bubble. There was a recent debate on here regarding TT's Tri-Logo Han Carbonite that helped dispel that worry though. :D

Yes, spot on. The race tracks (with logo) on the reverse and front play an illusion on the eyes so always look to see how aligned they are by seeing the black spacing to the sides (left, right, top and bottom) between the race tracks and the edge of card.

I remember a while back the positioning of the print on the cardback threw me off a little when looking at bubble variants but then realised the bubbles were the same, it was the race track positioning that was off.
